Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), represented by the Market Regulation and Control Services Department in Muscat, has confiscated 1,329 herbal and cosmetic products from a commercial outlet for violating the Consumer Protection Law and its Executive Regulations.

The seizure follows a series of reports received by the Authority, in addition to its monitoring of promotional content shared on social media platforms that specialize in selling herbal and cosmetic products. Judicial enforcement officers conducted surprise inspections at a number of establishments, where they found creams, capsules, various types of honey mixed with medicinal substances, and other items making unlicensed medical claims.

The operation forms part of the CPA’s ongoing efforts to regulate the market and ensure consumer safety by cracking down on misleading or illegal practices.

In a proactive move earlier this year, the Authority held a meeting in January with owners and representatives of herbal product shops and traditional treatment centers in Muscat Governorate.

The meeting aimed to enhance collaboration with suppliers, promote lawful business practices, and address the challenges faced by traders in the sector.

Discussions focused on facilitating compliance with regulatory procedures, including the process for obtaining permits and approvals, while also listening to shop owners' concerns and suggestions. The goal was to establish a streamlined and cooperative framework between the Authority and suppliers to safeguard consumer interests.

The CPA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying inspection campaigns to ensure that markets remain safe and compliant.

Consumers are encouraged to report any irregularities or violations through the Authority’s official communication channels.
