Shoe box collection for Operation Christmas Child starts next week

It’s not Christmas yet, but it is time for the annual Operation Christmas Child shoe box collection, a project of international relief organization Samaritan’s Purse. Packed with small gifts, hygiene items, school supplies, and a gospel message, the shoeboxes have been sent to more than 220 million children in over 170 countries and territories through the program since 1993. According to Christine Hainer, Operation Christmas Child area coordinator for Southwestern Pennsylvania, the shoe box may be the only gift the child receives, and she believes they “may have an eternal impact.” Those interested in contributing a shoe box are asked to use a standard-sized shoe box. ...

Uniontown homicide suspect won’t get $130K seized during his arrest

A Uniontown man accused of fatally shooting his wife won’t be able to fund his defense with the $131,000 seized from him when he was arrested at a Las Vegas resort. Two charged with trying to steal from Connellsville Area Community Ministries

Two women are alleged to have deceived a Connellsville nonprofit into giving them $700 in financial assistance. Connellsville police said Michelle Piper of Cardale, 44, told workers at Connellsville Area Community Ministries that she needed money to rent a home in White. Piper was able to provide the church lease agreement for the property which indicated that Dawn Musick,49, of Butler was the owner and landlord. According to police, the church issued two checks totaling $700 to Piper on Oct. 20.
