The film will be in theatres for one night only next month

Neil Young has announced a live soundtrack for his new tour film, Coastal. Check out the details below.

The release is set to be shared on April 18 via Reprise, and comes as a live recording and companion piece to the documentary from his ‘Coastal’ 2023 solo tour.

Titled ‘Coastal: The Soundtrack’, it includes 11 songs from across the singer-songwriter’s 60-year career – all of which recorded live at the live shows and including hits like ‘I Am A Child’ and ‘Vampire Blues’. Across the soundtrack, Young is heard on vocals, piano, guitars and harmonica.

“It is as intimate a live album as Neil Young has ever recorded, created at a time when the world was coming out of hibernation from the COVID pandemic,” reads a new press description. “Recorded in several cities, it is an album for the ages as the singer-songwriter finds new emotional power in his songs.”

It comes as the accompaniment to his Coastal tour film, which was shot and directed by filmmaker and Young’s wife, Daryl Hannah, and will be screening in theatres on April 17.

The project is a personal, behind-the-scenes documentary which followed Young during his 2023 tour dates and gave “an up-close and intimate view into the life of one of history’s most iconic songwriters and musicians”.

As well as live shows, Young recently released his first track with his live band The Chrome Hearts, ‘Big Change’. He has since given an update on his debut album with the group, explaining that he hoped to release it in April ahead of a summer tour.

“It is in mastering now to make the vinyl, CD and digital copies,” Young wrote. “I am very happy and relieved to have this done in the short time it took. The album art has been completed and handed in with Jenice Heo. I am working on the lyric sheets now, hoping to hand-write the words and get them in, in time…”

Earlier this week, it was reported that the folk icon is planning to play a free concert in Ukraine ahead of his upcoming European summer tour, but details around this remain sparse.
