Matt Pinfield, the voice and face of MTV’s 120 Minutes and prominent radio and club DJ in the New Jersey alt-rock scene, suffered a massive stroke on Jan. 6. The details were made according to legal documents filed by his daughter Jessica, per TMZ.

The 63-year-old from East Brunswick, who made his start at Rutgers radio station, WRSU, is now a radio host at Los Angeles radio station KCSN and LA’s KLOS radio station and is also a co-host of the AXS TV show “The Power Hour.”

Questions arose when KSCN let listeners know of Pinfield’s absence. “The SoCal Sound’s legendary DJ Matt Pinfield will be taking a temporary leave of absence, said the station. “We are fully supportive of Matt and hope to have his energetic knowledge of rock n’ roll back on the air soon.”

“Everyone at KLOS & Meruelo Media, along with Matt’s family (daughters Jessica and Maya, brother Glen, sister Colleen, mother Nancy), his girlfriend Kara, and the entire rock and roll universe support Matt in taking some time off to rest and heal,” KLOS owners Meruelo Media wrote in a statement. “Matt is a family member, and we look forward to having him back on the KLOS airwaves as soon as possible. We know his fans across the country, and all the artists feel the same way.

Pinfield’s daughter Jessica filed for a temporary conservatorship over her father, requesting that she handle his health and financial concerns. In the paperwork, she notes that Pinfield is “incompetent to make decisions regarding those aspects of his life.” Jessica also states that she worries that Pinfield’s girlfriend will withdraw money from his bank accounts.

On the day the stroke occurred, Pinfield posted to his personal Instagram account and said, “Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life-changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted.”
