Rainbow launches 44 Cats singing contest

Meow, let’s sing! will award talented UK fans with ‘pawesome’ prizes.

Rainbow, the international production company behind 44 Cats, has launched the first edition of Meow, let’s sing!, a singing contest aimed at young UK 44 Cats fans. The initiative, already live in Italy and Russia and starting in France and Poland later in May, has landed in the UK thanks to official media partner Magic Star Sony Music UK, which is supporting the contest with a dedicated digital campaign on social media.

Until 30th May, children from across the UK will have the chance to win special prizes by recording a video while performing a cover of their favourite 44 Cats song with the support of their parents. All the details to join the contest are available on 44 Cats’ official website.

The activity provides children with the opportunity to free their musical talent, promoting their love for music and singing. The winner of the contest will receive an exclusive 44 Cats large plush, while many other special prizes are up for grabs for participants ranking up to 10th place, sponsored by the exclusive UK toy distributor Siso Toys.

In addition to the Meow Let’s Sing initiative, Magic Star Sony Music UK has also released 44 Cats – The Album on all streaming platforms, featuring all the songs from the cartoon.

Produced by Rainbow, in collaboration with Italian Antoniano and Rai Ragazzi, the show is ready to launch season 2. 44 Cats is a success in ratings and web interactions, while the licensing programme is growing; more than 100 partners are already signed in many consumer product categories, with both national and multi-territorial deals.

Calbee UK Launches 'Paw Patrol'-Branded Line of Oven-Baked Pea Snacks

Snack food manufacturer Calbee UK has launched a line of Paw Patrol branded oven-baked pea snacks under licence with Nickelodeon!


Aimed at families and children, the bold and colourful packaging showcases characters from Nick Jr.'s top-rated CG-animated preschool series PAW Patrol.

The healthy vegetable-based products are currently available in Sainsbury’s and Heron Foods with several listings, including Asda, confirmed for the coming months.

The pea snaps are available from Unitas Wholesale in 6x15g multipacks as well 19g single bags. The multipacks contain two flavours: pizza and cheese, while the single bags are available in cheese only.


Green and amber Guideline Daily Amounts

Both pack formats contain all green and amber Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA) of key nutrients, are lower in calories, fat and saturates than standard potato crisps and are vegetarian friendly, according to Calbee UK. The 15g bags contain 65 calories per pack, while the larger 19g bags contain 82 calories.


Jon Wood, commercial director of Calbee UK, said: “We’re delighted to join forces with Nickelodeon to launch our new Paw Patrol oven-baked pea snacks. The TV programme has enjoyed monumental success and we’re thrilled to collaborate with such a huge brand.

“Not only is the product a healthy alternative to traditional crisps and snacks, it specifically targets toddlers, a gap in the category that is not well catered for. The product is lower in fat, salt and sugar in comparison to current offerings for this demographic and is perfect for children of this age.”


"The new range is the ideal bridge from the baby aisle into the snacking aisle and will be available in a portion-controlled variety six pack as well as a 19g pack for foodservice outlets, which is slightly more substantial for kids on the go. While the snacks are vegetables based, the cheese and pizza flavours will be hugely appealing for children, not to mention the affiliation with the brand.”

The packs are currently available in Sainsbury’s and Heron Foods stores and will hit shelves in Asda from Monday 4th May 2020. The product will also be available from Home Bargains, Ocado and Poundland outlets. Wholesalers slated to stock the product in due course include Bidfood, Brakes, Sugro and Unita.

Calbee UK is a subsidiary of leading global snack company Calbee Inc, which, formed in 1949, chalks up $2.3bn in revenue and has 13 subsidiaries and 3,800 employees worldwide.

The UK firm was incorporated in March 2014, with the opening of its first factory in Flintshire, north Wales in June 2015. It claims the launch of its first snack brand Yushoi was a big success, with the brand generating 20% year-on-year (YoY) growth.

Calbee UK aims to be at least a £60m business by 2021 from its current position as a £50m business today. It bought Seabrook Crisps in October 2018​ in a bid to further its strategic objective to grow internationally and establish a firm foothold in European markets.

PAW Patrol follows the adventures of a tech-savvy boy named Ryder and his team of pups who are ready to save the day. Whenever there's trouble, pups Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Zuma, Rocky and Skye are ready for action, no matter what comes their way. With a mission to work together to keep Adventure Bay safe, no job is too big, and no pup is too small.

Airing in over 160 countries, in 30 languages, PAW Patrol is consistently ranked as one of, if not the, top-rated preschool series. Currently entering its seventh season on Nickelodeon, PAW Patrol's universal messaging resonates with children around the world and since its launch in 2013, the franchise has won countless awards. Rainbow Secures L&M Deals for '44 Cats' in the U.K.

Italian content powerhouse Rainbow Group has confirmed several licensing and merchandising partnerships for its 44 Cats brand in the U.K.


Lisle Licensing has signed on to license the brand in the country, and the nightwear 44 Cats collection from TDP Textile Aykroyds is set to enter the market through F&F and Amazon. The official U.K. toy partner, Simba Dickie’s Siso Toys, began distributing the collection in February through such retailers as The Entertainer, Argos and Amazon, with Asda launching in April.

Created by master toy partner Toy Plus, the toys are based on key series elements, including music, creative play patterns and collectability. The line includes interactive plush toys, figurines, playsets and musical toys.

Additional deals are in place with U.K. partners—with John Toys and Amscan developing products with multi-territorial deals—and others such as Sony Music, Dreamtex, Redan Publishing, Fashion UK, Ravensburger, Clementoni and Chicco & Bip.

The first season of 44 Cats started airing on Nick Jr., Nick Jr. Too and POP TV in 2019. The CG-animated preschool series follows the daily adventures of Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Meatball – four adorable kittens living in lovely Granny Pina’s house and playing their songs as a music band named The Buffycats. Always ready to help their friends finding creative solutions to any kind of problem, the Buffycats are conquering broadcasters across the globe thanks to their cuteness and universal attributes, their stories dealing with central themes such as tolerance, diversity and altruism, and their unique way of combining positive values, action and comedy in a sophisticated CGI production. Siso Toys UK to Launch '44 Cats' Toy Range in February 2020

Siso Toys UK, the new subsidiary of the Simba Dickie Group, has announced the PAWsome news that it is planning to launch its brand new 44 Cats toy range n February 2020 to massive demand, with fans wanting to get their hands on their favourite 44 Cats characters.


The launch range of 44 Cats merchandise includes collectables, 3" figures accompanied by an accessory such as the musical instrument they play in the show, playsets and plush toys. The twin-pack figures have a colour change feature that reflects the superpowers of each cat. Playsets themed around each character will include an exclusive 3" figure plus a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs, the favourite dish of the feline bandmates. A plush line of 5" basic plush will be launched, along with four 8" musical plush that play the show's theme song

The Autumn/Winter 2020 range will expand into larger playsets, vehicles and musical roleplay. Siso Toys will be supporting 44 Cats with an extensive marketing plan comprising TV, YouTube, influencers, digital and PR activity. Siso will also be partnering with retailers on bespoke activity to drive sell-through.

Simba Dickie Group is the exclusive distributor of merchandise inspired by the brand for Europe and the Middle East.

Multi-territory consumer product deals are already in place, with leading partners Artsana, Ravensburger, Clementoni, John Toys, Amscan, BIP Holland and PEZ all developing a wide range of consumer products, while Aykroyds TDP, Dreamtex, Redan Publishing and Fashion UK are on board in the UK.

Additionally, Toy Plus is master toy partner, boasting an extensive product line based on the show's key elements - music, creative play patterns and collectability. Unitoys is exclusive distributor for Russia, and Bandai America distributes the toy line in the US and Canada.

Set in the world of animals, 44 Cats follows the daily adventures of Lampo, Milady, Pilou and Meatball – four adorable kittens who are part of a music band named The Buffycats.

The protagonists live and play in the Clubhouse, a garage beside old Granny Pina’s house. Their adventures explore the themes of friendship and altruism: the four cats love helping others and always find creative solutions to everyday hitches and help other cats in need. The series promotes positive attitudes and conveys educational messages dealing with important themes such as tolerance, diversity and solidarity in a funny way.


44 Cats made its world debut on Rai Yoyo in Italy on Monday 12th November 2018. Nickelodeon International acquired the broadcast rights to the series in May 2018, and has been rolling the animated series out on Nickelodeon channels and branded blocks around the world, excluding Latin America, throughout 2019. The series was recently renewed for season two.

Season two of 44 Cats will contain 52 x 13-minute episodes, bringing the number of episodes of the series up to 104 x 13 minute episodes. The second season of 44 Cats is expected to be delivered soon.

44 Cats is inspired by the very popular Italian kids song "44 Gatti", which, in 1968, won the 10th edition of the Zecchino d'Oro and has since entered the collective imagination of Italians.

44 Cats is the first Rainbow Group production jointly developed with Bardel Entertainment, the Canadian animation studio it acquired in 2015, and jointly produced in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi, and combines great music and edutainment with high quality animation. The series also marks Rainbow’s (Winx Club, Regal Academy, Club 57, Mia and me, Maggie & Bianca Fashion Friends) inaugural foray into preschool programming.

44 Gatti become the most watched Italian-produced cartoon of 2018 when it debuted on Rai Yoyo on Monday 12th November 2018, recording record ratings of 527,000 viewers and a 2.71% audience share, helping Rai Yoyo to continue to be the most watched children's channel in Italy! Since its debut, 44 Gatti has also held the record for the highest viewing share amongst children aged 4-7 years, reaching 16% and an average audience of 350,000 viewers in the 19.15 timeslot.

In the UK, 44 Cats premiered on Nick Jr. UK & Ireland in March 2019 and has since launched on FTA channel Pop. With prime scheduling, the viewership has been building each month and the show is consistently ranking as a top five preschool show. 44 Cats also premiered on Netflix in December 2019 with the first full season of 52 episodes available on the streaming platform, along with content on the brand's YouTube channel.

2020 will see 44 Cats lead a worldwide campaign to support responsible pet adoptions alongside several pet care associations. A host of edutainment activities and events promoting social responsibility are also planned.

Exclusive: Toy World discusses 44 Cats with Siso UK

As master toy licensee for 44 Cats, Toy World spoke to Siso Toys UK marketing manager, Mayur Pattni, on Siso’s new toy range launching in Q1.


“Rainbow’s 44 Cats is currently among the top shows across all of Nickelodeon’s platforms, including Nick Jr. and Nick Jr. Too, and has got off to a phenomenal start in each broadcast territory, with incredibly strong ratings in the UK. The recent audience split is 60% boys and 40% girls, making it a gender-neutral proposition with widespread appeal. The show went free-to-air on Pop in September and early reads are very encouraging.

Our product line will appeal to feline fans, showing off the cute characteristics of the 44 Cats bandmates. In the collectibles category, we have a range of mini figures hidden inside bright orange dustbins; each figure will retail for £3.99. There are 12 feline figures to find and collect within the first wave. We also have an assortment of eight basic figures priced at £7.99, covering each of the Buffycat band mates and their signature accessories.

Three play sets are available based upon either Lampo, Pilou or Milady. Each is themed upon that particular cat’s personality, and comes with an exclusive mini-figure and a dish of spaghetti and meatballs, the Buffycats’ favourite meal. The twin pack colour-change cats reflect the super-powers mentioned earlier and are really fun. There is also a plush line. The basic plush is 5” tall (12.7cm), while the 8” (20cm) plush have musical features.

The range will be available to view in Hong Kong, but the major unveiling will be at London Toy Fair in January. 44 Cats will benefit from a large dedicated area on our stand. Rainbow is providing massive support in building out the brand while we develop and market the toy range. It’s very much a collaborative effort, and I’m excited to see how the line is received at launch.”

Asmodee UK to Distribute Topps Collectibles; to Include New SpongeBob SquarePants Range

Asmodee UK will be distributing the full range of Topps collectibles, including Match Attax, Star Wars, WWE Slam Attax, and a new range of SpongeBob SquarePants collectables!


Topps, the preeminent creator and brand marketer of physical and digital sports cards, entertainment cards and collectibles, and distinctive confectionery products, has announced that it has partnered with Asmodee UK, an established distributor of games, collectibles and toys both domestically and across Europe, to deliver its popular range of collectibles to retail.

Topps has always held Asmodee UK (formerly Esdevium Games) in high regard and developing this relationship is an exciting proposition to all involved. Steve Conner, UK sales director, said: “We could not be happier with the relationship we have with Asmodee. This partnership will open up retail possibilities for both parties and with Asmodee’s strong sales force and commercial focus in toy retail, it’s a winning formula.”

Cooperation between Asmodee and Topps’ marketing and sales team will mean that retailers can expect even more exciting marketing and promotional activations. Asmodee UK will be distributing the full range of Topps collectibles, including Match Attax, Star Wars, WWE Slam Attax and new collections for SpongeBob SquarePants, Trolls, Minions and I Love Sloths figurines.

Topps previously partnered with Nickelodeon to release a SpongeBob SquarePants trading cards in the noughties. It's currently unknown what the company's newest SpongeBob SquarePants range will feature.

The Entertainer partners with Young Minds to support Children’s Mental Health Week


The Entertainer, the fastest-growing, family-owned high street toy retailer in the UK, is partnering with Young Minds, the UK’s leading charity supporting children and young people’s mental health, to help raise awareness of how play can promote mental wellbeing.

On Saturday 9th February 2019 during Children’s Mental Health Week, all 163 The Entertainer stores across the UK hosted The Big Create, a fun and engaging colouring-in and dough making session that took place between 12-4pm. What’s more, 10% of all profits of the Nick Jr. Ready Steady Dough lines by Addo Play sold both instore and online at TheToyShop.com on this day will be donated to Young Minds.

The Entertainer is also an active member of the Pennies scheme, the digital upgrade of the traditional charity collecting box, which enables customers to donate a few pence to charity at the point of sale when paying by card. On average, this generates £12,000 of customer donations to Children’s hospitals each week. The Entertainer currently employs 1442 staff across the stores and a further 228 in the Head Office in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

Nickelodeon's new animated preschool series, Butterbean’s Café

Preschoolers will be whisked away on magical culinary adventures in Nickelodeon’s brand-new CG-animated series, Butterbean’s Café, premiering Monday 4th February 2019 at 4:30pm on Nick Jr. UK and Ireland! Following launch, new episodes of Butterbean’s Café will air regularly weekdays at 4:30pm, with each episode replayed the following weekday at 7:00am and 12:00pm, and at various times during the weekend on Nick Jr. UK & Eire.

Created by Robert Scull and Jonny Belt (Bubble Guppies), Butterbean’s Café, the series (40 episodes) centers on a fairy named Butterbean and her adventures running her neighborhood café and bakery, and showcases creative cooking and features a curriculum with social-emotional lessons that highlight kindness and gratitude, and leadership skills.

In the series, Butterbean, her fairy friends--Dazzle, Poppy and Jasper --and her little sister Cricket take pride in serving up healthy snacks and sweet treats to the residents in their community of Puddlebrook. Butterbean’s special magic beans, the fairies’ enchanted kitchen tools and the team’s can-do spirit all combine to make their cafe the most awesome eatery in town.



In Butterbean’s Café’s series premiere, “The Grand Opening!,” Butterbean and her friends work together to make the opening of the café a success, while competing café owner Ms. Marmalady (voiced by Alysia Reiner of Orange Is the New Black) attempts to throw them off track.

It has been announced that Hasbro, the master toy partner for Top Wing, will commence a roll-out of plush, vehicles, gadgets and figures inspired by Nickelodeon's hit CG-animated preschool series from March 2019! Additional licensee deals have also been confirmed across the UK, spanning new categories and lines to create even more opportunities for fans of action, adventure and comedy. The captivating product ranges will enable preschoolers to join the Top Wing team and go on action-packed rescue missions of their own, which figures, mission-ready vehicles, play sets and plush toys inspired by the characters and adventures on the show. Sambro also plans to launch a Top Wing toy collection during autumn/winter 2019.

Nickelodeon UK & Paramount Release 'Rocko's Modern Life: The Complete Series' DVD Set

UK - Fans of Nickelodeon’s beloved '90s animated series Rocko's Modern Life can now own the entire animated series with the brand-new "Rocko's Modern Life - Seasons 1-4" DVD set!


"Modern life got you down? Take a break from all the pesky neighbours, freeloading pals and hazardous household chores with Rocko’s Modern Life: The Complete Series! This 8-disc box set is a laundry basket overflowing with every single episode of one of Nickelodeon’s biggest animated series. Relive over 21 hours of laugh-out-loud, live-and-learn misadventures, including fan-favourite episodes “Carnival Knowledge”, “ Sand in Your Navel”, “To Heck and Back” and “Flu-In-U-Enza”. Plus, stick around for more loony life lessons, like when Rocko realises garbage day is a very dangerous day, Heffer rushes to the hospital after eating way too many pasture puffies, a fortune cookie tells Filburt bad luck will infest his pathetic soul for all eternity, and more!"

Rocko's Modern Life - Seasons 1-4 includes 8 discs featuring all 52 episodes from the shows four-season run.

The set looks like it's based on a Shout! Factory US release, as it features the edited versions of "The Good, The Bad and The Wallaby" and "Hut, Saw, Raw", which both got edited in the US, but have always remained uncut on the UK airings. However, a scene from "Put to Pasture" which was cut by Nickelodeon UK is available in all its glory on this release which is a bonus.

Unfortunately, it looks like the DVD set does not include any bonus features, such as the original pilot version of “Trash-O-Madness”, “Wacky Delly” Live 2012, and commentary by creator Joe Murray on select episodes, which will also feature on the Rocko’s Modern Life: The Complete Series DVD set which will be released this Thanksgiving in the US.

Weirdly, the DVD set also carries a 12 age certificate, which is odd, as its a cartoon aimed towards kids. This isn't unusual though, as a 2012 DVD release of The Secret World of Alex Mack carried a 15 age rating.

Produced by Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment, the region two DVD has a running time of 1319 minutes.

"Rocko's Modern Life - Seasons 1-4" is available in purchase on Amazon.co.uk, and will be available on online shops such as HMV and Zavvi from Monday 19th November 2018. The average price is £34.99 GBP.

All-in-all, "Rocko's Modern Life - Seasons 1-4" is a good deal, and is bound to get you in the mood for the upcoming TV movie, Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling! Reliving the crazy modern life antics of Rocko will sure to be a hoot!

The Ninja Turtles Takeover Hamleys' Flagship Store in London to Celebrate UK Launch of 'Rise of the TMNT' Toy Line

Raph, Leo, Donnie and Mikey brought colour and humour to a wet, grey day at Hamleys flagship store in London on Saturday!

Hamleys’ Regent Street store played host to an entourage of ninja turtles this weekend to celebrate the launch of the new Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy line with a special meet and greet event!

The new look Raph, Leo, Donnie and Mikey, brought some colour and humour to a wet, grey day at Hamleys flagship store on Regent Street as they met the public in their first ever Rise of the TMNT UK character appearance.

The reimagined turtles are now four different species: Raph is a jagged-shelled snapping turtle; Leo is a red-eared slider turtle; Donnie is a soft-shell turtle, and Mikey is a box turtle.

Store visitors also had the chance to participate in special ‘light-speed’ challenges, have their faces painted and watch episodes of the new Nickelodeon show in store. The meet & greet follows the recent launch of the latest reimagining, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, airing now on Nicktoons and Channel 5.

People visiting Hamleys on Sunday were also be able to see the new Turtles in half hour slots on the hour from 12pm-4.30pm and participate in activities listed above. Visitors were encourages to share their photos on social media using the hashtag #HamleysTurtleTakeover on both days.
