CBS Orders 'The Road', A New Singing Competition Series From Executive Producers Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan For Fall 2025

CBS ORDERS THE ROAD, A NEW SINGING COMPETITION SERIES FROM EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS BLAKE SHELTON AND TAYLOR SHERIDAN FOR FALL 2025

CBS has announced that the new singing competition series THE ROAD (working title) has been ordered to series for fall 2025. From executive producers Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan, Lee Metzger and David Glasser, the docu-follow format trails a headlining superstar (to be announced) on their journey to discover the next big artist. Singers will join the headliner on tour, performing as opening acts in venues across the country. They will compete to win over local fanbases to secure a spot in the next city and remain on the tour.

The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Glasser’s 101 Studios with Shelton and Metzger’s Lucky Horseshoe Productions. Taylor Sheridan and David Glasser serve as executive producers. Blake Shelton and Lee Metzger serve as executive producers for Lucky Horseshoe Productions. 

“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee, on THE ROAD,” said Shelton. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”

“There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” said Sheridan. “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”

“This project has been a true labor of love that Taylor, Blake, Lee and I have been talking about for some time now,” said Glasser. “I can’t thank CBS enough for supporting us on this journey to bring an incredible project to audiences everywhere.”

THE ROAD offers viewers a backstage pass into the gritty and unforgiving life of a touring artist. With exclusive access to the behind-the-scenes workings of the music industry, viewers will see what happens when some of the best up-and-coming performers pile into a tour bus and tackle a grueling schedule in pursuit of their dreams.

THIS JUST IN... Several spirits from CBS' hit comedy series GHOSTS are big SURVIVOR fans! So, tonight (Oct. 24) during SURVIVOR, CBS is debuting the first installment of a series of SURVIVOR/GHOSTS crossover promos. The videos showcase the SURVIVOR-loving ghosts providing colorful fan commentary about the legendary reality series. (The spots, to air weekly through the season finale of SURVIVOR in December, feature the ghosts seeing and chatting about big moments and contestants specific to that Wednesday's original SURVIVOR episode. Additional GHOSTS characters will appear in the spots as the season continues.)

In the first video, which will run solely on the GHOSTS, SURVIVOR and CBS Instagram accounts, two of the GHOSTS' spirits (Pete, the upbeat 1980s scout troop leader - and Thorfinn, the 11^th century Viking) are enthusiastically watching an episode of SURVIVOR when 19^th century society woman spirit Hetty, walks into the room. As they briefly describe the premise of the popular reality show to her, Hetty is hesitant for mere seconds before being drawn into the show, in no small part because of host Jeff Probst (and his dimples!)

In the second spot, to debut on-air during tonight's SURVIVOR, Pete and Hetty chat about the episode's merge feast, while Thor recalls what he ate when he was shipwrecked on an island long ago.

GHOSTS' star Rebecca Wisocky (who plays Hetty) is a longtime fan of SURVIVOR and helped inspire this campaign while chatting about the show with CBS Marketing staffers while at San Diego Comic-Con for GHOSTS this past summer. The idea was fleshed out by CBS -- and by GHOSTS executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, who are writing the scripts and filming the cast members for these videos on their GHOSTS set.

Aussie Shore is the first Australian iteration of the smash-hit, international reality “Shores” franchise. The charismatic jokester earned himself a third-place spot after Australia fell in love with his overall lack of knowledge on basically everything around him. Cheeky, naughty and wildly fun, Callum’s electric personality and endless energy always kept things interesting for his fellow campmates and those watching at home.

CATIA

Self-proclaimed ‘Hot Mess’ Catia will flirt with anything that breathes. The 23-year-old trainee PT falls in love every weekend and, according to her mates, goes missing on a night out so often they’ve started writing their phone numbers on her arms.

NARDOS

Perth law graduate Nardos just finished her studies but she’s not in a rush to get a job when she knows her partying ways can be funded by the bank of mum and dad… and the dole. The party animal will be a force of nature in the house, and on any dance floor she can find.

LEXIE

Pocket rocket Lexi may be 5’2 but her huge personality more than packs a punch. Pansexual (attracted to whoever she connects with), 23-years-old and a content creator, Lexie lives by the motto “f**k it”. Always down for some fun, be it a vodka or a nudie run, Lexie does what she wants and faces the consequences of her actions… later.

LILY

At just 21, Lily will be the baby of the house but she makes up for it with her impeccable vibes. Admittedly, Lily says she first gets noticed for her boobs, then her loud energy. But don’t get on her bad side, the mischief maker isn’t one to be messed with and while she may look sweet, she’ll ruin anyone that dares cross her.

JAEDA

On the job site, 22-year-old Jaeda describes herself as “conservative and mean”, but as soon as Friday arvo rolls around, the building manager transforms into a party monster. Jaeda’s gift of the gab is so powerful she once managed to flirt her way into getting a ride home from a paramedic in an ambulance.

MANAAKI

Tall, dark, handsome, and an impulsive sh*t-stirrer, model and professional heartbreaker Manaaki spends most of his time partying. With a heavily religious mum and a dad who was in a gang, the 22-year-old was exposed to both worlds growing up, and now lives his life as a shameless attention seeker.

CON

No stranger to hard work, be it in the barbershop he set up in his garage or on his rig, he takes pride in his appearance and hopes the women in his life do the same. At 27 and 6’0, Con hopes to be the alpha of the house, and believes his sense of humour (and knack for poetry) will be key to winning over the ladies, adding, “if you can make them giggle, you can make their ar*e jiggle”.

COOPER

A gym junkie covered in tatts, Cooper knows what it’s like for people to judge him, even his own mum describes him as “a bit of a c*ckhead”. Deep down the 27-year-old labourer and fitness model is a big softie and serial monogamist is always falling in love, until clarity kicks in and he’s on to the next lucky lady.

TOM

Tom certainly puts the ‘F boy’ in farm boy. Originally from country Victoria, he knows his good looks can get him into trouble. On his last holiday he earned himself the title of most hated after sleeping with too many of the women on the trip.

KYLE

Describing himself as “probably gay… but a mix of bisexual”, Kyle’s own friends describe him as chaotic and ruthless on a night out. Working as a court officer, the 25-year-old pot-stirrer doesn’t hold back when there’s drama afoot and is not afraid to get messy.

This new iteration of the iconic reality TV franchise promises to take viewers on a rollercoaster ride of drama, romance, and pure Australian mayhem.

May 2024 is almost upon us and that means it’s time to take a look at all the titles coming to Paramount+ across the month.

May will be a sad time as fan-favourite series Star Trek: Discovery, comes to an end. But with two legendary additions and an incredible new original series May should also be an exciting month for genre fans.

From May 3 subscribers will have access to all 144 episodes of the iconic sci-fi series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The series stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers aka the Slayer, a lone young woman chosen in each generation to be bestowed with mystical powers to fight vampires, demons and the forces of darkness.

Then on May 13 Buffy will be joined by the first season of another fan-favourite series, The X-Files. FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) probe in to cases that have been left unresolved. But whilst Mulder believes in the paranormal, Scully settles for a more scientific approach. New series of The X-Files will then join Paramount+ each week until all 218 episodes are available.

Looking ahead to June 2024, fans can look forward to season three of Mayor of Kingstown, streaming 3 June.

Today CBS announced the Fall 2023 primetime programming premiere dates, which kick off in September and roll out through the fall.
