Paramount Plus Unveils New 'The J Team' Trailer, Poster

PARAMOUNT+ ANNOUNCES "THE J TEAM," A NEW LIVE-ACTION MUSICAL STARRING POP STAR AND SOCIAL MEDIA SENSATION JOJO SIWA, TO PREMIERE SEPTEMBER 3

NEW YORK - Paramount+, the streaming service from ViacomCBS, has announced THE J TEAM, a new live-action musical starring and executive produced by pop star and social media sensation JoJo Siwa, will be available to stream exclusively on the service beginning Friday, September 3. A new teaser trailer and art have also been released.

In addition to Siwa, cast members of THE J TEAM include NAACP Image Awards(R) nominee Tisha Campbell-Martin ("Martin," "Empire"), Laura Soltis ("Hiccups"), Julia Marley ("Dead to Me"), Kerrynton Jones ("Little Fires Everywhere") and Kiara T. Romero ("The Prom").

THE J TEAM is a 90-minute feature-length film that follows a young girl named JoJo (Siwa) whose life is turned upside down when her beloved dance coach Val (Soltis) decides to retire and is replaced by a sparkle-hating instructor named Poppy (Campbell-Martin). Wanting to stay in the running for an upcoming dance competition, JoJo and her best friends, The Rubies (Jones, Romero), must try their hardest to abide by Poppy's new, harsh rules. Realizing she cannot hide her sparkle or bow anymore, JoJo is kicked out of her dance troupe and must rediscover what dancing means to her.


THE J TEAM is directed by Emmy(R) Award winner Michael Lembeck ("The Santa Clause 2," "Tooth Fairy"), written by Eydie Faye ("Fuller House") and produced by Ron French ("Five Star Christmas"). Don Dunn ("To All The Boys I've Loved Before") is executive producer.

Produced by Nickelodeon and Awesomeness, THE J TEAM marked the first production under Awesomeness and Nickelodeon Live-Action Film Studio head Syrinthia Studer.

An original soundtrack featuring six new songs from Siwa and more is set to release on Friday, August 27.

In the clip, released on Tuesday, July 27, the former Dance Moms star, 18, shows up at her dance studio wearing her signature rainbow look with a matching hair bow. After ensuring her onscreen BFFs (Kerrynton Jones and Kiara T. Romero) that she did, in fact, arrive at their dance studio “by unicorn,” JoJo’s life takes a dramatic turn. The arrival of new dance instructor Poppy, played by Tisha Campbell, turns JoJo’s world from fab to drab.

“Cheer up, this is going to be fun. As long as you follow my rules,” Poppy tells the dance team in the minute-and-a-half long video. “No high-tops, no ponytails and absolutely no bows.”

JoJo promises that she’ll “try harder to blend in,” but the trailer shows her eventually getting kicked off the dance team. “What if we celebrated everyone being unique,” the songstress says before introducing her new competition team: The J Team. Together, the dancers hit the stage as a whole new troupe. Throughout the clip, fans also got a first listen to some of JoJo’s six new songs, which are set to be featured in the film.


Siwa shared a behind-the-scenes clip of a dance sequence from the film on her Instagram last week. "BTS from my new movie “The J Team”🤫💜 Streaming on Paramount+ September 3rd!!!🎉," she captioned the clip.
