More Than $2 Million Raised for Kids at the 10th Annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk


Donations for Children with Special Needs, School Foundations and Scholarships Have Totaled More Than $11 Million to Date

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif.--The Skechers Foundation broke new fundraising records for children with special needs and education at Sunday’s 10th annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, surpassing $2 million in contributions and totaling over $11 million since the Walk’s launch. Supported by lead presenter Nickelodeon and media sponsor NBC4 Southern California, the event was attended by more than 15,000 walkers and participants as well as numerous entertainment and sport celebrities, including legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, actress and model Brooke Burke and fitness icon Denise Austin.

“At 10 years, the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk is bigger and better than ever,” said Brooke Burke. “In the many years I’ve taken part, I’ve seen this event grow from a community movement to the largest event of its kind in California. The one thing that never changes is the commitment that all of these families and friends have for their children. It’s such an incredible model for the great things that our community can do for our kids.”


Friendship Foundation pals Talia Colen and Gaby Gomez take the stage at the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk. The annual event has helped launch Friendship Foundation clubs at more than 30 schools across Southern California.

“This event has affected thousands of our kids in profound ways,” added Michael Greenberg, co-founder of the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk. “The children attending have grown up seeing the great impact a community can have, whether it’s their parents walking for their education, or how they can personally support kids with special needs through more than 33 Friendship Foundation school clubs in the South Bay. At a time when bullying continues to be a concern, we’ve raised a generation who is more sensitive to the needs of those who are different from them, thanks in part to this event and the Friendship Foundation. And I can’t wait to start our next decade of encouraging positive change in our community through this Walk.”


The Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk has raised more than $11 million since its launch in 2009. Funds support The Friendship Foundation, an organization that assists children with special needs and their families through one-on-one peer mentoring and social recreational activities such as summer camps, outings to sporting events and a variety of classes that include music, yoga, cooking, art and drama. The Walk also funds education foundations committed to retaining vital academic programs, maintaining smaller classes, improving libraries and upgrading school technology, and also supports the Skechers Foundation’s annual scholarship program, which will donate $100,000 to deserving students across the country in 2019.

In addition to performances by seven-year-old singing sensation Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja, upcoming High School Musical star Joshua Bassett, Nayah Damasen, Dream Crew and Pynk Le’monade, fans enjoyed autographs and photographs with characters SpongeBob and Patrick, and young celebrities from shows like Nickelodeon’s Knight Squad and Cousins For Life, NBC’s This is Us and CBS’ Young Sheldon, plus a guest appearance from Nick Radio's J. Viacom to Launch Nick Jr. Play with Sky New Zealand

Interactive App will offer full episodes, educational games and surprises



SYDNEY / AUCKLAND, 30 OCTOBER 2018 - Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), a division of Viacom Inc (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB), today announced plans to launch a fully-authenticated version of Nick Jr. Play with SKY New Zealand on Thursday 1st November 2018!

Nick Jr. Play is an interactive App experience that offers pre-schoolers access to Nick Jr. shows, games and music including full episodes, educational games, original videos and even some silly surprises. Designed and programmed to promote discovery, pre-schoolers will be able to explore on their own with easy-to-use swiping and tapping.


Nick Jr. Play will also provide SKY New Zealand customers the ability to unlock the full library of available videos and games that will include content from the network’s most popular programming including PAW Patrol, Nella the Princess Knight, Dora the Explorer, Bubble Guppies and more.

The launch of Nick Jr. Play follows the success of Nick Play in New Zealand. Launched with SKY in April 2017, Nick Play has given Kiwi kids access to hundreds of Nickelodeon-themed videos, original short-form animations, newly created games, as well as full-length episodes of Nickelodeon’s biggest hits and current top shows via SKY’s customer authentication.

Upcoming 'The Dude Perfect Show' Season 3 Episode to Feature Footage from Frisco RoughRiders' Award-Winning 'Dude Perfect Night' Promotion

Move over, Uncle Joey.


Prior to this season, the biggest crowd in Frisco RoughRiders history was for June 12, 2015's "Full House Night" featuring Full House star Dave Coulier. That night, 11,927 fans packed the house, a mark that stood until early this summer, when 12,067 fans showed up at Dr Pepper Ballpark for July 20's "Dude Perfect Night." This evening-long celebration of the Frisco-based trick-shot collective wound up setting more than attendance records. After two weeks of fan voting, it emerged triumphant over nine other nominees en route to winning the 2018 Promo of the Year MiLBY Award!

Dude Perfect, who have nearly 36 million YouTube subscribers as well as their own show on Nickelodeon, are comprised of Tyler Toney, Cody Jones, Garrett Hilbert and twins Coby and Cory Cotton. The quintet (as well as their mascot, Panda) are no strangers to the RoughRiders' home of Dr Pepper Ballpark. Three Dude Perfect videos -- Baseball Trick Shots, Baseball Edition and Dallas Stars Edition -- have been filmed there, resulting in over 40 million YouTube views. Dude Perfect's local ties and familiarity with the facility made them a natural fit for a RoughRiders' promotion.


"As they shot more and more videos at the ballpark, the idea of a [Dude Perfect] promo came about. We wanted to do something that could fit into their travel and shooting schedule," RoughRiders president Andy Milovich told MiLB.com reporter Benjamin Hill. "We had cultivated a relationship and wanted to make this work for both them and the fans. ... This resonated from a charitable standpoint as well, thanks to a partnership with the Make-A -Wish Foundation."

The Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers wore Dude Perfect theme jerseys that Friday evening with the proceeds of a postgame auction raising over $5,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The dudes mingled with the first 1,000 fans in attendance during a pregame meet-and-greet session, threw a ceremonial first pitch, participated in between-inning contests and led the crowd in "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." The entire evening was filmed by a Nickelodeon film crew for a yet-to-be-aired episode of The Dude Perfect Show.

"We had a blast teaming up with the RoughRiders for 'Dude Perfect Night' at the Ballpark," said Coby Cotton. "It was a great opportunity to connect with our fans in an especially fun way, and we were humbled by record-breaking attendance. Huge thanks to everyone involved!"



"The thing that jumped out at me the most was the overall demand for tickets," added Milovich. "We sold out a week in advance. On the day of the game, there were three pairs of tickets on Stubhub, $7 lawn seats, that were going for $85 a piece. The excitement and enthusiasm was something I could have never imagined. I knew it would be big, but this was overwhelming."

That enthusiasm carried over into the online MiLBY Award voting, with "Dude Perfect Night" receiving 28 percent of the overall vote amid a field of 10 nominees. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans' "Deaf Awareness Night" finished second with percent, while the Fresno Grizzlies' "Coming to Fresno" was the second runner-up with 18 percent.

"Winning the MiLBY is great. It's one of those things that is very exciting in this industry, whether it's a MiLBY or a Golden Bobblehead, seeing the pride and the excitement that it generates in the staff," said Milovich. "As we go into the planning season, nailing down what our promo schedule looks like, we ask ourselves, 'Is this something that will win one of those awards? Will it meet the expectations of what it takes to do that?' It forces us to think bigger, and that makes us better as a team and better as an industry."

Beginning Monday, Nov. 5, at 3:00 p.m. (ET/PT), Nick will serve a feast featuring the series premieres of two brand-new animated preschool shows Rainbow Rangers and Butterbean’s Café, along with all-new episodes of hits Double Dare, Henry Danger, Knight Squad, PAW Patrol, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Loud House, and more.
