Brandon Durham, a 43-year-old black man, was reportedly killed by a Las Vegas police officer after he called 911 to report a break-in. Durham was at home with his 15-year-old daughter when he called the police to report that multiple people were shooting at their house and trying to get in. He told the operator that he had locked himself in the bathroom and was waiting for the police to arrive. A shocking bodycam footage has also been retrieved from the house where the officer can be seen firing at Durham.

Television station KSNV reported that Officer Bookman and two other officers saw shattered cars and heard screaming voices from within the house. At the scene, they discovered Durham wrestling with 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux over a knife.

Preliminary findings suggest that he fired a bullet into Durham once and then fired five more shots at close range as the victim lay on the ground. Local police tried their best efforts to revive him but unfortunately, Durham was declared dead at the scene.

“I’m disgusted with the Metropolitan Police," Durham’s daughter, Isabella Durham said while addressing the media, as quoted by KSNV. “The fact that they wrongfully shot my dad and then tried to spin the narrative to cover them, saying that there were gunshots there, that he had a knife, none of that is true," Isabella added.

In the press conference, she expressed her distaste at how the Metropolitan Police told her father to “stay down" as if he were the criminal, not the victim. Isabella protested against the police conduct arguing that she is left for the rest of her life without a father.

Durham’s registered domestic partner Rachael Gore was also quoted by KSNV saying, “What are you looking at? Not the colours of the clothes, you’re looking at the colour of the skin and that’s why he’s dead."

Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren confirmed that the victim had instructed his daughter to go to her room, bolt the door from inside and wait. Koren said that Bookman was the first person to go into the house after he kicked the door in.
