Kartik Purnima 2024: Devotees Should Avoid These 4 Things On This Day
The devotees should avoid eating tamasic foods (meat, fish, garlic, onions, eggs, wine) on Kartik Purnima.
Today, November 15, 2024, marks Kartik Purnima, a festival that is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains on Purnima day or the fifteenth lunar day of the month of Kartik. On this auspicious occasion, the devotees should not do certain works that can displease Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and fortune. Prominent astrologer Pandit Nand Kishore Mudgal from Deoghar, Jharkhand, has shared his insights with News 18 Jharkhand in this regard. This space articulates those insights.
1. The devotees should avoid eating tamasic foods (meat, fish, garlic, onions, eggs, wine) on Kartik Purnima. They should not consume these food products even mistakingly. According to Pandit Nand Kishore, eating these food items can harm an individual’s life.
2. The believers should also avoid wearing black clothes. The astrologer Pandit Nand Kishore said that wearing black clothes on the day of Kartik Purnima is not considered to be a good omen. He said that this can infuriate Goddess Lakshmi.
3. On the Kartik Purnima, the believers should also avoid plucking the Tulsi Patta (Basil Leaves) as it is considered a symbol of the Goddess Lakshmi. Tulsi plant is also worshipped on Kartik Purnima. Hence, the devotees should not pluck Tulsi’s leaves because doing so can bring negative consequences to their lives.
4. The devotees should also donate to the poor, needy, helpless or a Brahmin on this day. The donation has special importance for Kartik Purnima. Therefore, believers should not forget to give alms on the Purnima day.
On Kartik Purnima, the devotees should worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi with proper rituals. They should also include Kheer as an offering to both revered deities. This pleases the Goddess Lakshmi and she ushers in financial progress in the house of the devotees. According to Pandit Nand Kishore, the Dev Deepawali festival will also be celebrated with immense happiness on this day. One must donate lamps on the day of Dev Deepawali. This increases happiness and prosperity in the house.
According to the Hindu scriptures, all devotees must bathe in the Ganges or any other holy river on Kartik Purnima. People also light diyas to celebrate the victory of Lord Vishnu.
