The members of the Experimental Aviation Association Chapter 5 have announced they are now accepting enrollment for their annual week-long day camp for students going into grades 7 through 10 who are interested in flying.

The EAA Chapter 5 Summer Youth Aviation Camp will take place July 7-11 for new campers from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Geauga County Airport in Hangar 3, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield Township.

The camp is designed for kids with a real interest in aviation, according to a news release. Students will actively participate in learning about aerodynamics, parts of a plane, the engine, flight operations, careers in aviation; will develop skills in map
reading, riveting, woodworking & building; and will be given opportunities to tour the airport facilities and to “fly” on flight simulators.

There also will be daily activities such as glider flying contests and scientific experimentation, as well as recreational fun activities, the release stated. After the camp, there will be an opportunity for campers to take a Young Eagle Flight on July 12 with July 13 as the rain date.

Space in the camp is limited to 18 students to allow for more hands-on opportunities, according to the release. Registration forms and $150 fee due by May 15. Scholarships are available.

A T-shirt, hat and supplies are included; participants should bring their own lunch, though snacks will be provided.

Corporations who would like to be a camp sponsor should inquire about levels.
