Nicole Scherzinger, Kelly Rowland, and Liam Payne Are Building the Band

AJ McLean will host the series about making the next great music group sight unseen.
    Aug. 16, 2024

Who better to help build a band than some of the most legendary artists who ever did it?

Nicole Scherzinger will serve as mentor and judge in Building the Band, an upcoming unscripted series in which the next great pop group is created sight unseen. Joining her on the judging panel are Kelly Rowland and Liam Payne, while AJ McLean will host. As former members of The Pussycat Dolls, Destiny’s Child, One Direction, and the Backstreet Boys, respectively, these hitmakers will bring their unparalleled expertise and years of personal experience to the competition.

Featuring a group of uniquely talented singers, Building the Band takes face-to-face encounters out of the musical equation. Instead, the contestants will find their perfect bandmates based on compatibility, connection, and, most importantly, merit. And when the bands finally do meet, how will looks, choreography, and style come into play? Expect plenty of drama, next-level artistry, and unforgettable performances.

Building the Band is a brave and bold undertaking for all involved as we hand over power to the singers themselves to form their own band based on chemistry first,” says executive producer Cat Lawson. “With looks out of the equation, can they create a deeper connection with their bandmates? With limited bands, there are difficult decisions and heart-stopping moments along the way, but ultimately the outcome is truly amazing, with bands forming who in my opinion are worthy of the very biggest stage!”

Filming begins this summer and additional guest judges, along with various challenges, will be announced soon.

Scherzinger will next star in the revival of Sunset Boulevard opening Oct. 20th on Broadway. If you just can’t wait to see Rowland on-screen, check out her steamy new thriller Mea Culpa.
