As Rocky River gears up for the upcoming season, pitcher Rees Heigle made his academic decision.
On the night of March 20, the Pirates’ ace on the mound announced that he committed to play Division I baseball at Mount St. Mary’s.
Heigle made his announcement on X that he will attend there after the 2025 season.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to commit to Mount Saint Mary’s University, where I will be continuing my academic and baseball careers,” Heigle said. “Thank you to my coaches, teammates and family for helping me get to where I am today.”
He pitched 51 2/3 innings for the GLC West champions. He posted a 1.62 ERA, with a 7-1 record over nine games, struck out 81 batters and had an opposing batting average of .114.
Heigle made first-team all-GLC, second-team all-district and first-team All-State Prep Baseball.
Rocky River’s left-handed pitcher broke multiple school records for the Division II district runner-up. The Pirates won 23 games, breaking the school record for wins in a season (previously 22 wins in 1999).
Their first game of the 2025 season was against Garrett Morgan on March 19.
Along with Josh Mommers, who recently signed with Bowling Green, they are the only Division I commits from Rocky River since 1999.
