Black River Audubon Society’s April 1 program will feature Diana Steele and her presentation “Lynds Jones — The Birdman of Oberlin.”
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at Carlisle Reservation Visitor Center, 12882 Diagonal Road in LaGrange.
Jones, 1865-1951, was a pioneering ornithologist and ecologist from Oberlin. This talk will explore his career and how he is responsible for many of what birders today view as standard practices, such as bird lists, Big Days and the Christmas Bird Count, according to a news release.
Steele has been a science writer for more than 30 years. She is an avid birder and has birded in all 50 U.S. states and six continents. An active volunteer with BRAS, she is also a former board member of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
This program is free to the public. For more information on programs, volunteering or becoming a member, visit www.blackriveraudubon.org or visit them on Facebook.
