
The Nord Family Foundation recently announced the list of nonprofit organizations in the fields of arts and culture, civic affairs,
education, and health and social services that have been awarded grants this cycle.
At a February trustees meeting, grants approved totaled $3,034,500 to be disbursed in Lorain and Cuyahoga counties in Ohio as well as Columbia, South Carolina; Metro Denver, Colorado; Boston, Massachusetts; Penn Yan, New York; and other areas of interest, according to a news release.
Thirty-seven other actions totaling $114,739 were also ratified at the meeting, bringing the total grants authorized in this round to $3,149,239.
The following were local recipients:
• The Amherst Historical Society received $45,000 for continued general operating support
• The Amherst Downtown & Betterment Association received $40,000 for continued general operating support
• Good Knights, Inc. in Wellington was given $50,000 to purchase a delivery vehicle
• Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village was given $40,000 for capital improvements to outdoor Wildlife and Education Exhibits
• Lorain Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program, Inc. was given $30,000 for a building upgrade
• Main Street Oberlin, Inc. was given $25,000 for continued general operating support
• Oberlin Historical and Improvement Organization received $27,000 for continued support of preservation of historic buildings
• Historical Society Oberlin received $50,000 for continued support of capital improvements and archeology of the historic Wilson Bruce Evans Home
• Lorain County Lorain was given $25,000 for a match support specialist position
• Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio received $50,000 for continued general operating support for club sites in Lorain County
• Lorain Lighthouse UMC/Lorain United Methodist Ministries is getting $15,000 for continued support of the Camp I.D.E.A.S. program
• Save Our Children of Elyria Inc. is getting $65,000 for continued general operating support
• Lorain County Health & Dentistry received $100,000 for a Sliding Fee Discount Program expansion
• Lorain County Safe Harbor Corp is getting $85,000 for continued general operating support
• NAMI Lorain County Lorain received $20,000 for general operating support
The Nord Family Foundation is a successor to the charitable trust originally established by Walter G. Nord in 1952. The predecessor organization contributed more than $12 million to a variety of charitable causes between 1953 and 1988, primarily in Lorain County.
The Nord Family Foundation has contributed more than $174 million to nonprofit organizations in northern Ohio and selected geographic areas of family interest, the release stated.
The Foundation only accepts grant applications online, accessible through the application portal on its website. The next deadline for
consideration of online grant applications is April 1.
