While the calendar may show July, this morning’s temperatures certainly didn’t feel like it. Many locations throughout the state saw overnight temperatures dip down into the 40s, with some locations reaching the 30s.
A strong high pressure system moved over Michigan Sunday, leading to clear skies and calm winds overnight. These conditions allow any heat to escape overnight, causing chilly temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service, Grand Rapids bottomed out at 47 degrees, with Big Rapids cooling to 42 degrees early Monday morning. Leota, Michigan had an overnight low temperature of 34 degrees, just two degrees above freezing!
Roscommon, Michigan also recorded a low of 34 degrees. Average low temperatures for this time of year are in the 60s.
After today, overnight temperatures look to warm up toward the lower 60s, where they should be this time of year.
