DICKINSON COUNTY, MI -- A 23-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting two minors in separate incidents was bound over for trial last week. Trentin McWilliams is facing multiple charges in connection with an alleged assault in 2018 and another in 2022.
McWilliams is charged with one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of accosting a child for immoral purposes for the 2018 case and three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct for the 2022 case.
McWilliams, who is from Norway, Mich., was extradited from California in September thanks to funding provided by a state appropriation that funds Operation Survivor Justice. That program is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local County Prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service that works to locate and apprehend Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants, Nessel’s office said.
“Operation Survivor Justice is already having a profound impact across Michigan and the nation,” said Nessel. “Through our partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service, we’ve successfully ensured a number of individuals accused of sexual assault are facing justice in court.”
Charges connected to the 2018 case were filed by Nessel’s office in July 2024 and allege that McWilliams assaulted a child at a relative’s residence. Prosecutors in Dickinson County charged McWilliams in February 2024 in connection to the 2022 case. In that matter, it is alleged that McWilliams assaulted a 14-year-old girl in a vehicle in October 2022.
A pretrial date has not yet been set, according to Nessel’s office.
