A hugely popular and scandalous drama has just been made available on Netflix in its entirety.
Starring a packed cast of recognisable names, including several major Hollywood stars, the series had millions of viewers hooked when it first aired from 2007-2012.
Set at a prestigious high school in New York City, the series follows a group of privileged teens whose lives are upended by a mysterious online blogger who comments on their deepest personal secrets.
Several major Hollywood stars made their start on the series, including Blake Lively, who just made headlines with the controversial drama It Ends With Us.
You on Netflix star Penn Badgley also made a name for himself on the show, and it also features one of the first major appearances by Marvel icon Sebastian Stan.
We’re of course talking about Gossip Girl, which originally pulled in huge numbers on The CW back in the 2000s and early 2010s and is now available to stream on Netflix in the UK.
Despite its cheeky marketing ploy of using bad reviews to promote the show in its trailers, the series scored raves from fans and critics alike and is widely regarded as one of the best teen dramas ever.
Gen Z culture blogger Her Campus described it as the “Best Teen Drama of All Time”, writing “we’ve seen many shows display the perils of teenage and young adult life.
“And yet, in my not so humble opinion, there is one teen drama that has taken this concept and made it into a masterpiece.”
“I believe that Gossip Girl’s influence on both pop culture and the teen drama genre is not talked about enough,” they added.
Back in 2022, Glamour had it at the number three spot on their list of the best teen shows, beating out classics like Smallville and One Tree Hill and recent faves like Euphoria and Riverdale.
Sky has brought back its viral free trial, meaning you can bag a Netflix subscription and Sky Stream for £0 for the first month, offering customers a saving of £31.
This means members can enjoy binge-worthy shows like House of the Dragon, The Walking Dead and Bridgerton without paying a penny.
“Forget the identity of Gossip Girl and just take a second to remember how many colored tights and headbands you owned because of Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester),” they wrote.
“The show was sexy, the cast was unimpeachable, and I still ship Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair even though I know I shouldn’t.”
Fans have also continued singing Gossip Girl’s praises over the years, with one Redditor penning: “There truly has been no other teen drama show that topped Gossip Girl
“This show was just iconic. Nothing I have seen even comes close to the quality and depth of this show (in the teen drama genre).”
To which another user agreed: “It's true. G.G was one of those rare shows that just had that certain something - a certain vibe and edge that no other shows in the genre have.
“It truly captured the zeitgeist and tapped into pop culture in a rather special way.”
