Frequently asked questions

  • To be eligible, customers must have a license for one of the following products:

    • Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise or Microsoft 365 Apps for business

    • Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, or Business Premium

    • Microsoft 365 E3, E5, F1, or F3 

    • Office 365 E1, E3, E5, or F3

    • Exchange Online Kiosk, Plan 1, or Plan 2

    • OneDrive for Business Plan 1 or Plan 2

    • SharePoint Online Plan 1 or Plan 2  

    • Teams Essentials or Teams Enterprise

    • A version of these plans that doesn’t include Teams

     

    US Government GCC customers must have a license for one of the following:

    • Microsoft 365 F1, F3, G3, or G5

    • Office 365 F3, G1, G3, or G5

     

    Features available in Microsoft 365 Copilot GCC are listed on the Microsoft 365 Copilot Service Description. Upcoming features will be posted on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap (filter by cloud environment GCC). Microsoft 365 Copilot is not currently available for GCC-High, DoD, or non-US government clouds.

     

    Education customers must have a license for one of the following:

    • Microsoft 365 A1, A3, or A5 for faculty 

    • Office 365 A1, A3, or A5 for faculty or higher education students aged 18+.

     

    Education customers can purchase through their resellers or the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program. 
     
    Consumers are not currently eligible to purchase Microsoft 365 Copilot.

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot includes access to Copilot Chat and works seamlessly with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams,2 Microsoft Loop, and other Microsoft 365 apps.

  • No, there is no trial available for Copilot.

  • If you’re an existing Microsoft business customer with a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan, you can add Copilot to your subscription from your Microsoft admin center account.

  • With Enterprise Data Protection (EDP) in Copilot, prompts and responses stay within the Microsoft 365 service boundary and all associated data handling commitments apply, including support for General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), International Organization for Standardization (ISO)/IEC 27018, and our Data Protection Addendum (DPA). Prompts and responses are logged, subject to your data retention policies, and will be available for eDiscovery and other Microsoft Purview capabilities. The specific controls will vary depending on the underlying subscription plan. Prompts and responses continue to not be used to train the underlying large language models.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot enhances business processes by combining large language models (LLMs) with your work context. Key features include:​

    • Microsoft Graph grounding and Microsoft Graph connectors: Adds context from emails, chats, documents, and meetings.​

    • Enterprise Data Protection (EDP): Ensures data stays within Microsoft 365 boundaries, supporting GDPR and other standards.​

    • Copilot Chat: Integrates web, work, and business data into a rich information database.​

    • Copilot Pages: Organizes and shares content for easy collaboration and project tracking.​

    • Copilot in the flow of your work: Available in Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.​

    • Microsoft Teams collaboration: Streamlines meetings with real-time summaries and insights.​

    • Pre-built agents: Connects to business applications, including SharePoint.​ 

    • Copilot Studio: Enables users to create and customize workflow agents.​

    • Copilot Control System: Provides IT with data protection and management controls, measurement, and reporting.

  • Using role-based agents, customers can enhance Microsoft 365 Copilot by connecting it to new data sources and applications and expanding its functionality. Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales, Service, and Finance include Microsoft 365 Copilot and a role-based agent for sales, service, or finance to provide purpose-built insights and workflows.

  • Copilot Studio is the comprehensive tool for building agents, which use AI to automate and execute business processes, working alongside or on behalf of a person, team, or organization. Agents built in Copilot Studio can seamlessly integrate your data, take action, and be deployed across multiple channels—organizations pay only for usage. For those licensed for Microsoft 365 Copilot, use of agents published to Microsoft 365 Copilot is included in their license.
