Wikimedia Language and Product Localization/Community meetings

From mediawiki.org

Language community meetings bring together editors and technical contributors involved in creating content or managing technical aspects across different language communities. This is a participant-driven meeting, where we collectively discuss language-specific technical updates and challenges and work together to find possible solutions. This could involve anything from fixing a broken template on the Kurdish wiki to brainstorming ideas for growing content on the Tulu Wiktionary, currently in the Wikimedia Incubator, or celebrating the creation of Fon Wikipedia, to using MinT for content translation.

The aim is to encourage collaboration among individuals and communities interested in language-related technical topics. These quarterly gatherings are led by the Wikimedia Language and Product Localization team. Starting in November 2024, these meetings will be conducted in collaboration with the Wikimedia Language Diversity Hub. If you need interpretation support from English to another language, please let us know by posting on the talk page.

The meeting structure is as follows:

  • Welcome and Introduction – Greetings and agenda overview.
  • Highlights & Technical Updates – Participants volunteer to provide technical updates a few days prior to the meeting.
  • Problem-Solving – Participants submit their technical challenges a few days prior to the meeting and brainstorm possible solutions with others during the session.
  • Networking and Q&A – Participants can ask questions and chat with others who share similar interests.
  • Closing – Wrap-up and details about the next meeting.
