1. Choose the container
To grow figs in a container at home, choose a minimum size of 18-24 inches in depth and diameter. The container should have a drainage hole.
2. Fig Variety
Choose the fig variety that grows well in a pot. You may choose between Petite Negra, Celeste, or Black Mission. They produce smaller and are manageable in a container.
Anjeer prefers well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Use high-quality potting mix for the soil and add some sand to improve drainage.
4. Plant the seeds
Fill the container with prepared potting mix and plant the seeds a few inches at the top. Gently pack the soil around the roots to remove air pockets.
5. Watering Fig Plant
Your anjeer plant will require ample watering for the seeds to settle in the soil. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Water more in summer and less in winter.
6. Sunlight and Temperature
Place the Anjeer plant container in a spot that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight. Figs prefer warm temperatures between 18 to 30 degrees Celsius.
7. Fertilising and Maintenance
Fertilise the Anjeer plant in early spring with a balanced fertiliser that is rich in phosphorus and potassium. Re-pot the fig plant every 2-3 years in fresh soil.
