Diabetes, an increasingly prevalent health concern in our nation, has assumed alarming proportions, so much so that India is now known as the diabetes capital of the world. As the number of individuals afflicted with diabetes continues to rise, the economic burden of managing this condition has grown by 5x. Studies reveal that the annual cost of diabetes management falls within the range of INR 18,000 to 20,000 rupees per patient. This cost escalation has, in turn, led to a substantial increase in insurance premiums for individuals with diabetes, now standing at INR 17,000, compared to INR 9,000 for non diabetics. This underscores the pressing need for both governmental and healthcare industry intervention.  Diabetes is a complex and multifaceted disease, and it is imperative that we look beyond a one size fits all approach. Tailored solutions are required to cater to the diverse demographics, age groups, tier 2 & 3 cities among others. Over the past few years, we have witnessed numerous digital healthcare companies introducing diabetes management programs that have made commendable strides in addressing this issue.
