Our team had a great experience yesterday presenting posters at #APHA2024. They shared insights on harassment experienced by local health departments during the pandemic, as well as #FOCsurvey data on community health workers in local public health. Yesterday, Lisseth Guerra presented a poster sharing lessons learned from an evaluation of three years of NACCHO's Adaptive Leadership Academy. She highlighted how the program enhanced local health officials' ability to respond to adaptive challenges and lead through times of change. Key findings from our #NationalVCAssessment report (at lnkd.in/ek69HFfd) include: ↗ In 2023, 76% of respondents reported needing improved mosquito surveillance and control capabilities. However, this is down from 2017 when 84% reported the same. ↗ In 2017, 58% of responding programs performed non-chemical vector control. This increased to 88% in 2023. ↗ One in four respondents conducted tick surveillance activities, while only 4% conducted tick control activities. Most frequently, programs provided community outreach and education about tickborne diseases.

The American Public Health Association has recognized suicide, overdose, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) as three of the most urgent public health challenges. The shared risk and protective factors of suicide, overdose, and ACEs present both a challenge and an opportunity for targeted prevention efforts. In 2021, NACCHO conducted a national study to understand local health department capacity to address these three issues. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's ELC program plays a key role in strengthening #InfectiousDisease programs. However, the distribution of these funds from state to local health departments is complex.
