Have you ever been told: "Don’t talk about that at work." ⁉️ 🤫❌ As Johnson & Johnson’s first Mental Health Ambassador, Craig Kramer spent years erasing that sentence from the company’s culture. He created the their first Employee Resource Group for staff who live with mental illness as either a patient or as a caregiver. “Half of these senior executives wept openly,” Kramer said. “Just the relief of being able to tell their family’s story and also the hope that they could be part of something that could make it better.” After overcoming multiple mental health crises within his family, and finally asking for help himself, he realized there should be more emphasis on preventative mental health services in the workplace. “We wait until somebody is in a crisis before we provide support. We don’t do that with any other illness.” Three ways we can all help spark change: ✅Take mental health first aid training ✅ Teach children about mental health in the same way we do about dental health ✅ Treat each other like this is not a flaw in character Would you be honest about your mental health at work if there was a safe forum to do so? Which industries have the most stressed out managers? Nearly half of U.S. middle managers are burning out on the job, according to LinkedIn’s Workforce Confidence survey, and the latest findings show this runs the risk of impacting their direct reports, too. About 30% of employees report having bosses who are often too stressed to support them at work. The problem appears to be even greater in certain industries: 38% of employees (excluding C-suite employees, partners and owners) in the oil, gas and mining industry say their boss is too stressed to support them, followed by retail workers (36%), construction workers (35%) and those working in manufacturing or transportation, logistics, supply chain and storage (33%). Middle managers face pressures from above and below them in the org chart, and are more likely to be dealing with burnout than their more senior or more junior colleagues, according to earlier LinkedIn research. But many professionals are counting on their bosses to push through burnout — just over two-thirds of employees say they would leave their job if they had a bad manager. That sentiment is most pronounced in the consumer services industry, where three-quarters of workers agree, followed by education (where 73% agree).
