We can all celebrate progress this #NationalDairyMonth as food and ag companies tackle their methane emissions! 🎉 In the past year we’ve seen BIG climate action as global companies including the Bel Group, Clover Sonoma, Danone, General Mills, Kraft Heinz, Lactalis USA, Nestlé and Starbucks joined the EDF-led Dairy Methane Action Alliance. ICYMI: The Alliance aims to drive down methane emissions in company’s dairy supply chains. Kudos to Alliance members for leading on responsible corporate stewardship, and our experts Katie Anderson and Vrashabh Kapate who spearhead our EDF team’s dairy efforts.👏 Why this matters: 🐄 Reducing methane is key to slowing global warming, and ~10% of human-caused emissions come from dairy. 👨🌾 Supporting farmers and companies helps ensure business continuity and supply chain resilience. 📝 By year-end, Alliance members will disclose their methane emissions and create action plans to cut them. But this is just the beginning! To all dairy companies: the call is out. Join forces to amplify change by signing onto the Dairy Methane Action Alliance. The shipping sector’s race to net zero is on, driven by ambitious #GHG emissions reduction targets! ⚓📉 But the transition to green shipping will require capital investments: Fleet transition could cost $8bn to $28bn per year, with new fuel infrastructure costing an additional $28 bn to $90 bn. European banks, as leading financiers of the maritime industry, have a pivotal role to play in facilitating this transition by accelerating funding for green shipping initiatives. Understanding the key barriers to shipping transition finance is critical to overcoming them with our NEW report. We explore these challenges and how to address them, such as: ✅ Availability of clean fuels. ✅ Alignment with banks’ green finance ambitions. ✅ Financing costs for green vessels. See the full report: https://lnkd.in/euae8W8p 🔎 Bonus Opportunity: Join us for this Thursday, 27 June at 1600 CEST for a free #LCAW2024 webinar on financing shipping’s green transition! Speakers will provide insights from the paper: https://lnkd.in/dEZXRiHa

Two satellite programs, one mission! 🌍 A new generation of methane-tracking satellites is set to revolutionize emissions monitoring this year. MethaneSAT and the Carbon Mapper coalition’s Tanager satellites - developed by PlanetLabs.Earth with technology from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory - are designed to detect and measure methane emissions globally. Methane contributes significantly to current global warming, and these satellites will provide the data needed to tackle this challenge effectively. 🔭 MethaneSAT: High-resolution, wide-area methane tracking. 🔎 Tanager: Detailed insights at the facility level. 🤝 Together, they will catalyze #ClimateAction to #CutMethane and slow the rate of warming, in our lifetime. For business, transparency enabled by satellites could introduce new levels of scrutiny over the oil and gas industry, and enable a new standard for the financial sector's analysis of oil and gas assets.
