Yesterday, SAIS hosted North Macedonia's Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski — who is also a 2015 SAIS alum — for a conversation on the country's expansion of e-governance to boost citizen engagement and foreign investment, tackle corruption, cut red tape, and advance the country's EU prospects. Before the event, students had the opportunity to sit down with Minister Andonovski for a larger conversation on his SAIS experience, his career, and the region. “SAIS was a big chunk of my life, of my transformation. It has been truly an honor to return," he said.

In 1986, the Hopkins-Nanjing Center made history by welcoming its first class of students to campus. 38 years later, students are returning to Nanjing for an exciting week of orientation activities, beginning with a powerful message from SAIS' Dean Steinberg: "You're joining a remarkable community of thinkers and doers who are dealing with the greatest challenges that are facing us in the world today."

“I don’t need to tell this audience about the magnitude of the challenges we are facing,” Dean Steinberg said in his Korea Week Conference on U.S.–ROK Relations keynote address. Yesterday, SAIS and the Korea Development Institute KDI School of Public Policy and Management hosted former U.S. and Republic of Korea officials and experts from the United Nations, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, McLarty Associates, Nextrade, and more to discuss present and future relations between the two countries and the challenges of establishing a future-oriented trade environment. The second and third day of the conference will take place at George Washington University and will focus on advanced technologies, inter-Korean relations, the Russia-North Korea dynamic, and U.S. elections.

To kick off the first week of classes on SAIS' D.C. campus, students celebrated with ice cream, a photo booth, student club showcase, resources fair, Washington Nationals baseball game, and so much more.🍦📚⚾️
