✨Meet Alex, Marketing Design Lead

Spotlight on Alex Stoian Marketing Design Lead here at Circuit. Alex joined us back in 2021. Here she tells us what led her to a career in Marketing Design and what life is like on her team.

What led you to a Career in Marketing Design?

I was lucky to grow up with a computer in the house, and I remember creating a lot of zines and custom notebooks (pretty sure my biggest expense at the time was printer ink). After my family and I moved across the world, I spent a lot of time online to stay in touch with friends from home. Around that time, I began tinkering with CSS themes on Tumblr, and after downloading a dodgy copy of Adobe InDesign, I fell in love with layout and typography.

I studied something different at uni, so I had no connections to my local design community. After I graduated, I built a small portfolio of personal work and went around the city knocking on studio doors (literally). One kind designer appreciated the courage and pointed me to a local business that needed some help with their branding. And that’s how I got started!

What’s one thing you really like about working at Circuit?

I really appreciate Circuit's commitment to providing value for our users, which is one of the things I love about working here. This approach not only guides our product development process (as Pol mentioned in his answer), but it also has a big impact on Marketing Design — it’s so much easier to promote a product that is packed full of useful features!

Thinking about it, the majority of our projects in Marketing are focused around providing value. We create a lot of resources for drivers and businesses on our blogs and on YouTube, and we are transparent and honest in our communication. For our landing pages, we focus on representing all product features faithfully, while still adding small moments of joy through interactive elements.

What does your typical working day look like?

We’re a relatively small company, so most of us wear multiple hats. Depending on which project I’m working on, I could be designing a new landing page, running a brainstorming session for new merch, designing a new set of app screenshots, or helping other team members with assets for their projects.

Most of my time recently is spent working on our website. At the moment I’m redesigning our main landing page, which includes setting the structure and visual style, creating illustrations, and getting the files ready for development. When that’s done, I will be working with our talented developers to bring the page to life section by section, testing and perfecting the design before it’s ready to go out into the world.

You’re hiring a Marketing Designer for your team at the moment – tell us why you think someone should consider joining us (or why they shouldn’t!)

This role is for folks who like to work autonomously and who are happy to complete a design project with minimal guidance. I wouldn’t recommend it to people who prefer to work in super-specialized teams, or who are used to managing other designers. If you’re looking to work in a big team with copywriters, art directors, or data managers, I don’t think Circuit is right for you — everyone on the team is very hands-on, and we tend to do a bit of everything.

It’s true that we aren’t very process-focused, but we make up for it with a lot of communication and collaboration. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects and have a say in shaping the future of Circuit. Plus, we’re a fun and supportive team that’s always up for a challenge!
