Honoring Black History Month

Honoring Black History Month

At Girls Who Invest, Black History Month is a time for celebration, reflection, learning from the leaders before us who fought day in and day out for the protection and advancement of Black rights, and applying these lessons to make impactful change for generations to come.

Within our dynamic GWI Community, we have industry leaders, Partner firms, Alumni and Scholars who identify within the Black diaspora, and we thank GWI SIP 2024 Scholar Gabrielle and GWI OIP 2024 Scholars Valencia and Ava for standing up and sharing your thoughts on what this month means to you. - Michelle DeFossett, Chief Operating Officer at Girls Who Invest

“Black History Month to me is a time to celebrate, acknowledge and appreciate all the contributions Black people have made to help shape the world as we know it today. This month, I challenge you to reflect on how you can amplify and uplift Black voices. Happy Black History Month!” - Gabrielle Mathis, SIP Class of 2024

“To me, Black History Month means celebrating Black love from all cultural, educational, and societal backgrounds.” - Jean Valencia Ngunjiri, OIP Class of 2024

“Black History Month is a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the importance of community support. Having an advocate with a seat at the table to consider your perspective can make all the difference, and the idea of succeeding together and building each other up is something that really resonates with me and is also core to the Girls Who Invest ideology.” - Ava Brown, OIP Class of 2024
