Embracing Sustainable Showering: How GROHE's Innovations Save Water and Energy

The advancing climate, water, and energy crises have necessitated a fundamental reevaluation of our resource usage, particularly water. A recent survey highlights this shift, with almost two-thirds (64%) of respondents acknowledging that individual water conservation can positively impact the environment.

Given that bathrooms account for over two-thirds of daily water consumption, there is a growing trend towards modifying shower habits. Internationally, 65% of those surveyed have already adjusted or are planning to adjust their routines, opting for shorter or less frequent showers.

This changing consumer behavior underscores the critical role that we can play in promoting sustainable water usage practices to our customers through innovative products and solutions. Here is what we are talking about:

  1. GROHE EcoJoy technology for hand and head showers as well as faucets helps to decrease water consumption. It is available on numerous models across most of all style and price segments such as the GROHE Tempesta or the GROHE Euphoria shower systems. A flow limiter reduces the water flow without sacrificing performance or comfort by up to 50 percent. For example, GROHE Tempesta 110 equipped with EcoJoy, can save a 4-person household up to €68 on their annual water bill and up to €282 on their annual energy bill compared to a conventional hand shower.*

  2. Many GROHE thermostat models include the GROHE EcoButton, which allows the full water flow only when pressed. So, up to 50% of water can be saved without even a conscious effort.

  3. With GROHE TurboStat technology included in various GROHE models, the thermostat maintains a constant water temperature throughout the showering process and compensates for temperature peaks to prevent scalding.

GROHE Teams Up with Eco Influencers to Promote Energy-Saving Cold Start Faucets

We have recently partnered with sustainability-focused influencers on Instagram to spotlight the benefits of our innovative cold start faucets. Influencers like @charlotteschueler and @goinggreenmedia have shared engaging reels showcasing how these faucets help conserve energy and reduce carbon footprints.

With a simple switch to cold start, hot water is only activated when needed, cutting down on unnecessary energy use. This collaboration not only highlights our commitment to eco-friendly solutions but also inspires followers to make small changes for a big impact.

The influencers' creative and practical demonstrations underscore the ease and effectiveness of integrating sustainable practices into everyday life. Follow their journeys and see how your customers too can contribute to a greener future with GROHE.

GROHE Blue water systems reduced single-use plastic bottle usage at Greentech Festival

The GREENTECH FESTIVAL, renowned for showcasing innovations in sustainability and green technology, provided an excellent platform for GROHE to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations. This year, the festival attracted a total of 14,000 visitors and featured 200 exhibitors on site. For the second time, GROHE was the official drinking water partner at the 6th annual event in Berlin.

The on-site "Made For Your Water" vehicles captivated attendees with their ability to deliver chilled, filtered, still, medium or sparkling water straight from the kitchen tap. The GROHE Blue water system not only provides convenience and great taste but also significantly reduces the environmental impact by cutting down on single-use plastic bottles.

Additionally, GROHE participated in the panel talk on the topic "Water: Have We Forgotten Our Most Valuable Resource?" on the DEEPDIVE STAGE. Watch the full discussion with Rolf Stahlhofen from the Water Is Right Foundation , Clemens Feigl from everwave and Benedikt Reith, Leader International Projects at LIXIL EMENA and learn of new perspectives on the topic of water.

Making waves for clean waters: GROHE´s partnership with everwave celebrates its 5th anniversary

everwave clean-up in Thailand and Bosnia-Herzegovina

Since 2019, GROHE has supported everwave, a German social business dedicated to protecting our oceans from plastic waste across Europe and Asia.

Everwave pioneers both active and passive cleaning technologies for rivers, including the everwave CollectiX boat, designed to intercept waste before it reaches our seas.

GROHE's customers play a central role in this partnership. Through two "Made for Your Water" campaigns, they have directly contributed to a cleaner environment. By choosing GROHE Blue water systems, they directly counteracted the continued use of single-use plastic. In addition, for every GROHE Blue system purchased, everwave collected 1kg of waste with the CollectiX boat. The clean-up operations spanned the Bocac reservoir in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2022 and the Phasi Charoen River in Bangkok from late 2023 to early 2024.

Beyond cleanup efforts, both partners are committed to advancing education and research on plastic waste issues and raising public awareness to promote a sustainable lifestyle.

The two partners regularly join forces at panel talks to emphasize the importance of the ressource water, as was recently the case at the GREENTECH Festival in Berlin (see YouTube video before).

Stay tuned as GROHE and everwave continue to make waves in the fight against plastic pollution and inspire positive change globally.

GROHE Sponsors Team Ocean Rowing Expedition to Promote Water Conservation

GROHE supports Team Ocean - adventurers Bela Evers, Joost Schutte, Sara Eenhoorn, and Wilco Van Rooijen - in raising awareness about water conservation.

Their mission: “Aquawareness”, promotes responsible water usage and sustainable practices. During their expedition, they will be producing their own drinking water and living on less than 8 liters per day compared to the Dutch average of 129 liters per person per day.

Their commitment: Starting this July, GROHE Team Ocean will row from the Swiss mountains to the North Sea, emphasizing the urgent need for water conservation due to the 10% loss of Swiss glacier water volume over two years. In 2025, they will row additional 4,500 km from California to Hawaii, again producing their own drinking water and living on less than 8 liters per day.

The collaboration: We think Team Ocean champions water stewardship and responsible consumption. They are setting an example of being water self-sufficient, inspiring sustainable practices for a water-resilient future.

We will keep you updated on their progress during this journey! All the best of luck to Team Ocean!

* This calculation example is based on the following parameters: Household of 4 people using 7 minutes of shower time per person per day. The costs are based on the following estimate: Energy cost (electricity) 0,3 €/kWh, water cost (without waste water) 0,002€/litre. Assumption of flow rates (measured flow at 3 bar pressure): Old product flow rates: 12 l/min for shower New product flow rates: 8.3 l/min for shower. New products equipped with water-saving EcoJoy technology. GROHE does not guarantee the accuracy and correctness of the results, as the calculation depends on many unforeseeable factors and is therefore non-binding. In particular, it depends on water and energy prices, consumer behavior and the technical installations on site.
