Xuan Nguyen-Sutter: Xuan Nguyen-Sutter was the first executive director of the Refugee Women Network and a founding member. Xuan was a refugee from Vietnam who later resettled in the US. As she helped found the Refugee Women Network, Xuan’s work contributed to creating the only org in the state of Georgia to specifically meet the needs of refugee women. This week, as the United States celebrates Independence Day, Melanie Nezer, WRC’s vice president for advocacy and external relations, reminds us to think about what #immigrants and #refugees mean for America. This is close to Melanie’s heart. Not only is she a passionate advocate for the rights of refugees and migrants, she comes from a family of immigrants to New York City, arriving from the 1900s to the 1950s. In her blog, Melanie calls on us to celebrate the resilience and courage of immigrants and refugees, who, like us, want to work, send their children to school, have a home, be safe, and contribute to their communities. And she reminds us to celebrate the compassion, resourcefulness, and humanity of the people and communities across the US who are investing in and welcoming our newest neighbors. Read more:

What a way to start our day! This morning, the Women's Refugee Commission hosted participants from the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), a U.S. State Department exchange program. Nearly two dozen activists, educators, journalists, and public officials from around the world working on issues related to #humanrights and #civilrights joined us in our Manhattan office to discuss their important work. And we were of course honored to discuss with them our work with refugees around the world. It. Was. Epic. #ExchangeOurWorld #IVLP

At the Women's Refugee Commission, we are proud to host the Global Refugee Youth Network (GRYN), and to partner with a powerhouse group of young leaders challenging the status quo across the humanitarian community. GRYN supports #refugee #youth in developing their abilities to help each other, craft solutions to respond to the needs of their communities, and to ensure that any decisions made for refugee youth are informed BY refugee youth and their lived experiences. "With young refugees, for young refugees." We're excited for you to get to know this catalytic initiative!

Guerline Jozef is co-founder and executive director of HAITIAN BRIDGE ALLIANCE, which provides humanitarian, social, and legal services to migrants and immigrants, including at the U.S. border with Mexico. The Bridge focuses on the needs of Black immigrants, the Haitian community, women and girls, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and survivors of torture and other human rights abuses. Guerline also is co-founder of Black Immigrants Bail Fund. She is the recipient of several awards for her leadership including the 2021 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award. Women's Refugee Commission has named Guerline one of our #35Voices as we celebrate our 35th anniversary. We are so excited for you to meet Guerline Jozef!
