Have you ever stood at the edge of change, only to feel your voice echoing into the void? If so, this message is for you. Change is not a sprint; it's a marathon. A journey filled with hurdles, and sometimes, it feels like our efforts barely make a dent. Let me share a story that mirrors the resilience needed in the face of such challenges. Recently, in our quest to make a meaningful impact, we reached out to the African Union. The goal? To ignite a conversation about a groundbreaking initiative we've been working on alongside IDH - the Southern African Food Transformation Alliance. Our ambition is bold yet achievable: to localize at least ZAR 20 Billion of food imports by 2033. This isn't just about numbers; it's about empowering communities, sustaining livelihoods, and setting Africa on a trajectory toward self-reliance and prosperity. Imagine my surprise when, after making a promising connection at the African Union who saw the potential in our vision, our attempts to engage further were met with silence. Emails went unanswered. Why, you might wonder, would the head of Agriculture for the African Union overlook an initiative poised to redefine Africa's agricultural landscape? This experience underscores a broader truth: the path to change is often littered with obstacles. But let me be clear - silence does not signify defeat. It is a call to be louder, to refine our approach, and to seek new pathways for our message to be heard. I share this not as a tale of frustration, but as a testament to perseverance. We believe in the power of collective action and the indomitable spirit of those who dare to dream big. Our work with the Southern African Food Transformation Alliance is just one chapter in a larger story of resilience, innovation, and hope. Today South Africa votes for a new presidential cohort or rather country lead, a remarkable day in our young democracy. So, what does this mean in my world of food? I see voting playing a critical role in shaping food policies that impact food security and food sovereignty. By participating in the democratic process, citizens can advocate for policies that access to nutritious food, support sustainable agriculture and empower local communities to control their food systems.
