News Pick-up: Article 23: Hong Kong passes tough security law By BBC Chinese and Kelly Ng URL: https://lnkd.in/gr-PYADm Excerpt: "Hong Kong has passed a tough security law which authorities say is necessary for stability, but which critics fear will further erode civil liberties. Article 23 targets new offences like external interference and insurrection, and penalties include life sentences. It was fast-tracked through its final stage by the city's pro-Beijing parliament in less than two weeks. Article 23 expands on a controversial national security law (NSL) earlier imposed by China. That law already criminalises secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces in Hong Kong." #YCAPS #HongKong #China #nationalsecurity #legislation

Non-binding resolution? Israel could easily create a solution and achieve its military aim! If it would open its borders (to Israel) and create Blue Helmets/UN peace force controlled, UNHCR managed, refugee facilities in Israel, Israel could dismantle all military infrastructure in Gaza without causing any further civilian collateral damage. At the same time would the (disarmed) Gazans have a safe zone to go to with a high likelihood to be able to return home if Gaza becomes inhabitable again (currently it is no longer). Further, by involving the international community, a starting point for co-existence as equals can be created. There is no future for Palestine or Israel based on the narrative of its radicals..... anyone who wants to claim the territory exclusively for themselves will only find war, violence and destruction, whereas the moderates at both sides hold the key to peace by non-violent interaction and dialog as equals. Practically it means to go back to the times of Canaan and establish autonomous communities and spread them over the entire territory. These autonomous communities can coexist and come together in a confederation of communities sharing the country. There is space for all cultural identities this way. Currently, such scenario seems very far fetched, but, since the Palestinians belong to where they are and nobody outside is waiting for a Palestinian exodus, the most probable alternative scenario is that Israel will lose worldwide support and may no longer exist in 10 years from now. Indirectly by destroying Gaza, Netanyahu bombed the Jewish state and a two-state solution. www.canaan.community & www.pax.ngo & www.convergence.ngo
All views expressed are my own. I am accepting all connection requests from people who are standing up for the injustices currently taking place in Palestine and around the world.
"It's a non-binding resolution, so there's no impact at all on Israel and Israel's ability to continue to go after Hamas...as I said in my opening statement, it does not represent a change at all in our policy." White House Spokeman John Kirby on UN Security Council Resolution - it's NON BINDING, so NOTHING changes. Actually All UN Security Council resolutions are legally binding. A refusal to adhere to a UNSC resolution violates the UN charter and international law.

Why are there five UN Security Council vetoes, rather than four or six (near misses!) or none at all? What actions do the vetoes _not_ apply to, and what relevance does that have to human rights and war crimes? Thanks to the Journal of National Security Law & Policy for publishing my article, which tells the twisting tale.
