🚨Out now - Wind energy data for Europe: Autumn 2024 🆕📊WindEurope’s newest data report reveals that #Europe built 6.4 GW of new wind farms in the first half of the year. Germany built the most with 1.7 GW, followed by France 1.2 GW and Spain 876 MW. Which brings Europe to 278 GW of #windpower capacity. This autumn update outlines the latest data for #windenergy our expectations for the rest of the decade. Other findings reveals that turbine orders increased by 11% from 2023 and auction volumes are strong with 19.7 GW of new capacity awarded. But challenges are holding back progress: grid bottlenecks, delays in permitting, and difficulties in securing big investments. What needs to happen next? 1. Grid expansion: New connections and grid updates must be fast-tracked to keep up with the growing capacity. 2. Permitting: While some countries like Germany are making progress, others need to catch up and fully implement the new EU rules. 3. 🌊⚡Poland's offshore wind could be game changer The offshore wind potential in the Baltic Sea region is estimated to be close to 100 GW by 2050. Baltic Power is leading the way as the first Polish offshore wind farm to reach a Final Investment Decision (FID). With a capacity of 1,200 MW, it’s set to be a major contributor to Poland’s clean energy future. And that's not all - other projects like Baltica 2 are expected to reach FID soon. 🌬️ UK Awards 6.3 GW of new wind capacity! The UK’s latest auction (AR6) has secured 6.3 GW of new wind energy- with 5.3 GW offshore of which 400 MW are floating wind. New onshore wind capacity has totaled 990 MW. This is a big step forward after last year’s auction saw no offshore wind projects bids. The new Labour Government's adjustments have paid off. But to reach its ambitious 2030 targets the UK will need even bigger volumes in future auctions. These new projects bring £14bn in private investment and will start generating power by 2026. 🥇 🇬🇧 Historic - The #UK reached 30GW of #wind generation capacity today! 🏡 This is enough to meet the annual power needs of more than 26 million UK homes and cut carbon emissions by more than 35 million tonnes a year. ⚡ And that's not all - renewables provided a record 46.4% of the UK’s #electricity in 2023, according to the latest statistics published by the government in July. Wind remains the biggest source of renewable electricity generation. Congratulations to the UK and RenewableUK for achieving this milestone.
