Great advice = do more of what you love. What I love to do is hang out with smart people and talk about AI in hiring. Extra points for a good IPA and lack of pretense. I'll be in San Francisco on May 22nd to do exactly that -- get in a room with friends to talk about AI in hiring with smart people that are building, have ideas, or are just interested in the space. Come hang out if that's you! (Link in comments, with a big thanks to EJ Lawless and the Indeed team for co-hosting with us!)

AI might be smart, but it still can’t replace two senior engineers arguing for hours over the perfect variable name. “tempData123” or “dataTempABC”? 🤔 Sometimes, the real code is in the debate. #ai #webdevelopment #engineers

Question to the community. When does AI take over what we do now? ok, to qualify my statement. we have AI generated code. complete or partial. when you hire a programmer that uses AI to generate your code but does not understand the why. the same with hardware, who are you hiring? The engineer with experience or the engineer that knows how to use AI? Thoughts.... And this was not corrected with AI.

What Happened to Prompt Engineers? Prompt engineers were once seen as a novelty, a niche role within the AI space due to how close to the frontier of AI and LLMs they tend to sit. But in the current dynamic of the AI field, the demand for prompt engineers has skyrocketed due to the desire to test, finetune, and evaluate the quality of models. Because of this, prompt engineers have evolved into a full-fledged job function. #llm #PromptEngineers https://lnkd.in/dATd4W8u

Another great video highlighting future of Software Engineering in the world of AI. The video is less than 10 mins but talks about a lot of practical aspects on how AI would affect the Software Engineering jobs. TL;DR: 1. You would still need humans for complex, unstructured problem solving. 2. AI can never replace human intuition, understanding human need, where tradeoffs can be made when designing and writing software. 3. There is also Ethical Decision Making which AI lacks in it's current form. 4. You would still need software engineers to write, manage and deploy these complex AI systems. 5. As a capable future Software Engineer, you will find yourself working alongside AI as compared to working versus AI. #softwareengineering #ai #artificialintelligence #genai #softwaredevelopment

Once AI starts making better AI, we're in trouble. Another AI breakthrough this week... Imagining my alternate life as a software engineer or data analyst, #Devin really shakes things up, showing how even the tech-savvy aren't immune to #ai's reach. #ai #artificialintelligence #softwaredevelopment #softwareengineering #AI #TechTrends #FutureOfWork #Innovation

Who needs an engineer with 20+ years of experience? From coding to process improvement to engineering leadership to product ownership, I can help.
Discussion: At what point will AI coding assistance become good enough where job positings will stop listing tech an engineer needs to know because the AI will do most, if not all, of the code writing, relegating the human to more of a “newspaper editor” role in the chain?
