I don't know about the world, but some Nigerians have been hawking their 2024 theme as "No gree". I know this is an entertainment generation, jumping on trends, but one thing I know is that that phrase will likely produce violent and ineffective outcomes. Thanks to Ekeno Eyo for sharing the tweet by Kuda The best creative response from the Kuda team and the right way to look at things - be solution-oriented in 2024. Seek to understand and be understood and together find solutions. #staysafe #becreative #solutionsandservices #collaborationforchange

Legacy media has often struggled to translate its...thing...to digital platforms, and the static front cover is notable among those challenges. But this video by Entertainment Weekly answers the question, "what can I do on this platform that I can't possibly do in print?" There's a lot that I love about EW's TikTok cover. The concept could ostensibly work in both a static and dynamic treatment, so from a production standpoint, you can have a realistic budget. The chess theme applies to House of the Dragon literally, which I like because the internet doesn't do subtlety very well. Which brings me to Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke being central to this concept. By using these two actors on their digital cover, EW is winking at the very audience that made the "negroni sbagliato with prosecco in it" meme explode in 2022, which, in turn, boosted interest in the show as well as its actors. The cover doesn't just work as a digital concept, it also shows a real understanding of who EW's audience is on a specific non-legacy platform, and what that audience responds to. And it's a worthwhile investment because TikTok in particular is a place that fosters pop culture discourse and fanhood to a superlative degree. That Gen Z flocks to it is an opportunity for legacy media to replenish its aging audience, which is a concern that all cultural institutions - artistic, media, etc. - share.

Big updates from Youtube to help creators maximise their content, reach new audiences and make MONEY. See my favourites below: 5. Auto dubbing Automatically translate and dub your video to make video accessible around the world. Not just in your language. This is huge. 7. YouTube Shopping There are now over 250,000 creators in YouTube Shopping, and the affiliate program will be expanding beyond the U.S. and South Korea to Indonesia today, and Thailand and Vietnam in the coming weeks. 9. Stand out on the big screen Creators will soon be able to organize their content into seasons and episodes, making it easy for viewers to tune into the new must-see TV. Gen Z watch more Youtube than Television, making it for TV friendly is a brilliant move. 3. Communities Communities are a new space that creators can enable on their channel page to foster deeper relationships with their audiences. Both creators and subscribers can post art and pictures, share ideas and connect about the videos and topics they love. 6. Hype: A way for viewers to rally around, or “hype,” small-to-medium-size creators to help them land on a weekly leaderboard. Think of it as an extension of the like button — if you really love a video, you can click the like button, then “hype” to help it reach a new leaderboard. That hype leaderboard will help those spotlighted creators get recognition and connect them with new audiences. Incredible stuff. On Jay Alto's list: "anti-meta is the new meta". According to him, it's a "more authentic, less edited version of YouTube". A commenter on his video also added that it's "such a breath of fresh air to click on a video and not be immediately overstimulated, through music, sfx and edits. It makes you want to actually stick around. Thank you Jay, I'll take some inspiration from your style." Long-time long-form YouTube personalities are retiring due to work-life balance changes and a decline in long-form viewers. YouTube is now pushing short-form videos to compete with TikTok. However, creators like Mr. Beast still create videos ranging from 10 minutes to TV-sitcom length, but with all the graphics and effects of shorts. But, if there's a decline in long-form viewers, is there a plateau for that sort of viewer? There definitely is, but will it be enough to sustain the less flashy creators? Nothing is forever, so even the viewers who crave frantic edit styles and effects may age-out or move on to other content. Let's see if Jay Alto's prediction that "anti-meta is the new meta" holds true in 2024.
