In a comment to Ørsted’s interim report for the first half year 2024, Mads Nipper, the company’s group president and CEO, explained the postponement was due to a delay in the construction of the project’s onshore substation. A quick observation for UK Wind Energy Week, pt.2: There's no surprise that offshore windfarms are bigger than onshore windfarms, but by how much? And how does the size of floating wind compare within fixed? The UK is poised to become Europe's leader in floating offshore wind by 2030. The UK is projected to contribute 74% of Europe's floating offshore wind capacity by 2030, as reported by WindEurope. European capacity is currently only 208 MW and the UK aims to add 1471 MW, primarily driven by the 560 MW Green Volt project. This project, expected to be Europe’s largest commercial-scale floating wind farm by 2029, will supply power to offshore oil and gas platforms and the UK grid. The growth of the UK’s floating offshore wind capacity will bolster its renewable energy capacity and reinforce its energy security, expanding the available area for the UK to build new wind installations.

Lithuania aims to secure 700 MW of offshore wind capacity through a new competitive auction. Interested proponents will be competing for a 15-year contract for the electricity produced from the chosen offshore wind farm projects. Under the tender rules, Lithuania’s State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) has set a minimum bidding price of €64.31 per MWh and a maximum ceiling of €107.18 per MWh. The registration window will run from 16 January 2024 until 15 April 2024, during which time participants will have to register, submit documents and offers. Bids will be evaluated until 27 May at the latest before a preferred bidder is announced at the end of May. The winning bidder will then be announced at the beginning of August 2024. VERT approved a number of changes to the offshore wind tender last week, including an increase in the overall size of the offshore wind project, which increased from 580 MW to 700 MW. The registration and submission window was also extended from 60 days to 90 days. #cleanenergy

Therefore, the number of CTVs specifically serving offshore wind projects in these states is currently limited or nonexistent. However, as offshore wind projects progress in the region, the demand for CTVs is expected to increase, leading to the deployment of dedicated vessels to support offshore wind operations off the coasts of North Carolina and South Carolina.

Vestas Wins 90 MW Order in South Korea Reading Time: 1 minutesVestas has secured a 90 MW order to power an undisclosed wind project in South Korea. The order consists of 21 V136-4.2 MW wind turbines in 4.3 MW. This project will be the largest onshore wind project for Vestas in the country to date. The order includes supply and supervision of installation of the turbines, as well as a multi-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement, designed to ensure optimised performance of the asset.
