The U.S. Probation Office for the Middle District of Florida is accepting applications for a Probation Services Technician in the Jacksonville Division. The Probation Services Technician provides technical, administrative, investigative, and case management support to probation officers and officer assistants and other members of the court unit. This includes assisting during presentence investigations and postconviction supervision. WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR EARLY TERMINATION OF PROBATION? In the State of Florida, anyone is eligible to file for an early termination of probation. However, this does not mean a judge is required to grant or approve the request. Fortunately, there are a few factors our attorneys can assist with which should certainly help increase the chances of the judge agreeing with those requests and granting the motion. The Florida Statutes list the following factors as reasonable grounds to make the request: *Serving at least half of your probationary period before filing a petition to terminate probation; *Paying all required costs and fees associated with your probation; and *Completing all other requirements of your probation including community service requirements or attending classes and substance abuse counseling. Additionally, the probation requirements for every offender will probably be different. For those of you on probation or community control for a felony, I've got some good news (how often do you here that, like, never?). You can shorten your term without asking the judge, the prosecutor, or notifying the victim. It's just between you and the Department of Corrections. You need to know about two loopholes, found in Florida Statute 948.05. The first loophole is educational achievement. If you get a GED, college degree, or vocational certificate, probation will knock off 60 days for each one you earn. I've had clients plan out their certificates while on probation to take advantage of this. The second loophole is the continuous stable employment loophole. If you've been employed for 6 months and work at least 30 hours a week, you can get one month off your term for every 6-month period of stable employment. Some probation officers may not know about this law, so be ready to discuss it. Take advantage of these loopholes – you can shorten your probation or community control term!
