Music is a big part of Park Plaza. Our Music Director hosts sing-alongs, and musical bingos, lectures on different artists and genres, leads our choir, and plays music for residents in the lobby every weekday. We also have concerts weekly from skilled and accomplished musicians and bands, playing a variety of genres. "Most of us love music, but if asked why, we can’t really say. But today, neurologists are unraveling the mysteries of this ancient human cultural trait, which many evolutionary biologists think even predates speech! MRI and other brain imaging can now reveal the incredibly complex way music works in our brains. And this research helps explain something scientists have long noted: Music offers many health benefits." https://lnkd.in/dmwim-4 https://lnkd.in/eYpfiKmU . . . . #chicagosenior #chicagoseniors #chicagoseniorliving #chicagoseniorliving #chicagoseniorlivingcommunity #chicagoseniorlivingcommunities #chicagojewish #chicagojewishcommunity #chicagojewishcommunities #parkplazachicago #parkplazachicagoparkplazachicago

🎵 Celebrating World Music Day! 🎵 As someone who loves to sing and produce music, I share a special bond with this universal language. Though I haven't learned music classically, it has been a part of me since childhood. My mom used to tell me that when I was a baby, playing a music cassette tape was the only way to stop my cry. Music has been my constant companion, bringing me joy and, to some extent, financial support. The Importance of Music: Music isn't just about melodies and rhythms; it's about emotional expression, cultural connection, and mental well-being. It transcends boundaries, bringing people together and fostering understanding. Music in Academic Research: Beyond its emotional impact, music is a fascinating field of academic research. Studies have shown that music education can enhance cognitive abilities, and research into how music affects the brain is providing insights into neural plasticity and emotional processing. Music therapy is helping individuals address physical, emotional, and cognitive needs, while technological innovations are opening new frontiers in music creation and analysis. On this special day, let's take a moment to appreciate the profound impact music has on our lives and recognize its incredible potential in academic research and beyond. Happy World Music Day! 🌍🎶 #WorldMusicDay #Music #AcademicResearch #MentalHealth #CognitiveDevelopment #MusicTherapy #Neuroscience #CulturalStudies

🎵🧠 Understanding the Symphony of Our Minds: Leveraging Music for Personal and Professional Growth 🚀 As an advocate for integrating neuroscience into everyday life, I find the intersection of music and the brain particularly fascinating. Recent insights into our musical tastes reveal more than just a playlist; they reflect our personalities, emotional states, and even social identities. For leaders and professionals aiming to foster inclusive and productive environments, this knowledge is golden. Imagine using music strategically within your workspaces to enhance creativity and collaboration. If openness correlates with a preference for mellow or intense tunes, consider curating playlists that stimulate these qualities during brainstorming sessions. For the extroverted and energetic, upbeat contemporary tracks could amplify their engagement. Moreover, understanding the emotional undercurrents of your team can guide you in choosing music that resonates with their current state, be it for motivation or solace. A thoughtful selection could help navigate through challenging projects or transitions, promoting a sense of shared experience. And let's not overlook personal growth; your playlist might just be the mirror reflecting your evolving journey. Embrace it as a tool for self-awareness and transformation. As we tune into our "True Colors," let's harmonize the melodies of our minds with the rhythm of our aspirations. #Neuroscience #MusicPsychology #Leadership #TeamBuilding #PersonalDevelopment #WorkplaceWellness https://lnkd.in/guCgYDt2

Indeed. Non-verbal human messaging system that triangulates with physiology. That’s the bottom line. The messages are contingent and reflective of the specific environment. We are working in. Extreme heat versus extreme cold for example. The messages are going to adjust to the physiological needs that are reflective due to environmental paradigms.
The arts connect us! Just this week I was having a conversation about the power of the arts with our local veterans group during a session where they were sharing some incredible artworks they'd made. Many of them frequently talk about how the 'Ocean Arts Mindfulness' program has engaged them in creating in ways they would have previously never imagined, helping them to connect with and share some tender parts of themselves, gradually strengthening their connections and bonds with other members of the group. Here's some research about how music connects people in ways that transcend geographical distances and cultural differences. I would add that the arts can connect us across time as well as space - the arts are everywhere and everywhen. "Music has long been celebrated as a universal language, transcending the barriers of speech to evoke deep emotions and connect individuals across the globe. A pioneering study, spanning cultures from the West to East Asia, has now provided empirical evidence supporting this age-old adage, revealing that music’s influence on our emotions and bodily sensations is remarkably consistent across cultural divides." https://lnkd.in/g8PVd7yF
