116km ran in 72 hours - 6.5km every 4 hours for 72 hours - 18 runs in total €6,757 raised for Irish Cancer Society Firstly, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone that donated to the ultimate running challenge. Cancer affects thousands of families in Ireland including my own and I understand how difficult it can be for families. I got a lot of messages from people acknowledging what I was doing & that it was very close to their hearts too. It was fantastic to get these messages from people and it pushed me to keep going! Secondly, I want to say a big shout out to everyone that joined me on the runs, the support was fantastic. 15 of the 18 runs I had people running with me which just shows how much support there was and I’m very grateful for it! Lastly, I set out this crazy challenge not knowing what to expect really, finished it and still felt I had more to give. It made me realised exactly how far I can push myself and what my body is capable of. I find myself coming across people every day who have completed challenges that seem impossible. People continue to amaze me and it pushes me to challenge myself even more and see what we can do because believe me, you are capable of doing so much more than you know! What I’m trying to say, challenge yours by as much as possible! Get out of your comfort zone and do something that might seem impossible or makes you feel uncomfortable! We strive and become better when we challenge ourselves to do something hard and uncomfortable. You will suffer and it won’t be easy but let me tell you it’s very rewarding when you’ve done it! It could be running your first 5km, first marathon, joining a sports club, or learning a new skill. It might not go to plan the first time, but just remember everybody fails in life even the most successful people. The main thing is to never stop trying. Don’t give up, stay strong, believe in yourself and try again! Here is a perfect example of how foundations can get easy publicity (and more contributions) if you plan an adventure hike around a specific cause (kidney donors), the hike itself is unique and compelling (3 mountains in Guatemala). If you also time the summit around a specific month/day (cancer awareness month or kidney donor day), it's an EASY pitch to local and national media. To paraphrase a great early-21st Century poet: "Onions have layers. People have layers. You get it? We both have layers." Our LinkedIn feeds tend to be dominated by our colleagues and connections propping up – or asking for – work, but we as humans are so much more. We all have other interests and commitments outside of our jobs which further define who we are, what we do, and why we do it. We are like onions: layered. With that in mind, I wanted to interrupt your feed to talk about one of my passions (and how you can participate in it): RUNNING. I love running, particularly the marathon and half marathon distances. For me, training for these races requires hundreds of hours on the pavement or trail, traveling the same routes week after week. Some will read that sentence and think, “Good God, that sounds boring and dreadful." Fair, but here’s my take: those long hours on the road are opportunity. Opportunity to analyze and dissect every stray thought that creeps into your brain. Every inkling of a concept can become a meditation on the human experience. I mean, it doesn't have to be...but it can. I have learned to be a better creative and leader due to running. Running is like an Ivy League educator in that it forces you to confront YOU. It asks you to dig deep, and demands you rise up. It teaches you how to be precise in your direction—an efficient stride gets you to your goal faster, better, and healthier. Every step counts. Above all, running has taught me patience. How to be more patient with my family, my team, my clients, and most importantly, myself. Great creative comes from being patient with the process, and the team who will help bring it to life. The best ideas will always find their way to the surface and win the day. This year I will be running the New York City Marathon (brought to you New York Road Runners) as a member of Team Sharsheret: The Jewish Breast & Ovarian Cancer Community! Last year our team raised over $200,000 in critical funds for Sharsheret, and we're hoping to smash that number (and set some new PRs) for the 2024 NYC Marathon. 🏃🏽♂️Running with Purpose: Supporting Firefighters 🏃🏽♂️ Hello LinkedIn Community, I’m excited to share a personal challenge that’s been fueling me in recent months. In three weeks, I'll be running in the Boston Marathon as both a personal challenge and to raise awareness for an incredible nonprofit. This marathon marks the last 26.2-mile leg in my journey to complete the Abbott World Marathon Majors—New York, Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo, London, and Boston! It’s been an epic seven-year journey of personal growth with many challenges and triumphs. If you ever get the opportunity, I recommend you take on a marathon. I’ve learned so much about myself in this process. Here are some take-a-ways that I think can be applied far beyond running: 1) Go after audacious goals. You will surprise yourself with what you can achieve if you actually go for it. 2) Make a plan, but be flexible. If you need to skip a run because you're hurt, that’s what is required. If you need to run less than planned one day because there was not enough time that day, that’s okay. Keep striving for the benchmarks and return to the plan, but know that life will happen. 3) Lean on your community. Gutting it out on your own only gets you so far. Your community's love, support, and honest feedback will get you to the finish line. I’m excited to support the Last Call Foundation as part of this run. This organization is dedicated to advocating for the safety of firefighters. By running for Team Last Call, I hope more people will look into this organization. The bravery and commitment of first responders inspire me, and this is my small way of giving back to those who put their lives on the line for our communities every day. This time for the MDA, an organization that is crucial for those struggling with Neuromuscular Disease. A dream come true for the 2nd year in a row. That part is a dream.   I’m also running for my mother this year. That part is tough.   In early May of 2023, 5 weeks after arriving at Champlain Hudson, my mother was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). It’s known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Astrophysicist Stephen Hawking famously lived with ALS for several years. Pete Frates sparked the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge 10 years ago. Aside from these famous folks, this ALS killer targets around 20,000 new people per year. It’s 100% fatal and incurable. ALS sucks. Typical life expectancy for an ALS patient is 2-5 years once diagnosed. If you want to know more about how ALS operates, I asked AI to write a 200-word description on my fundraising page.   Since May, over the course of 10 months, a wonderful yogi, dancer, artist, all-around community star, mother, wife, and grandmother was systematically stripped of muscular function in a gruesome battle with ALS. My mother passed away on March 4th, 2024. She was a remarkable woman and it’s a privilege to run in her honor this year. Our family’s loss is still raw, but I have to get the word out fast, since I’ve just FIVE DAYS left to raise money.
