Today we welcomed the MMAD team into our office for a companywide jam session to build some excitement ahead of official MMAD day tomorrow, Friday 20th October. Our UMA team also had the opportunity to provide their own song dedications that were performed live in recognition of Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD) Day 2023. Musicians Making a Difference is a national charity supporting young people and inspiring them to make positive choices. Every year they host an annual event, MMAD Day (Friday 20 October), which calls on Australians to dedicate a song to someone in need, with the hashtag #ThisSongIsForYou & tag Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD) As a partner of MMAD for 9 years, we are proud to continue our support of MMAD in reducing youth homelessness, poverty and addiction, break negative cycles, address mental health, and increase employment and education pathways for young people.

“We are families who have been traumatised by the continual fights with the very services which are supposed to help us make life easier for our disabled family members.” Sound familiar? This is a quote from research conducted by the Challenging Behaviour Foundation, a UK charity focussed on the needs of people with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges, and the needs of their families. Continuing our spotlight on the #BucklandReview, we have the 8th recommendation to companies: "8. Work with autism charities and other relevant groups to ensure autistic people know about Access to Work and the support it can provide to meet their individual recruitment and employment needs. Continue to improve the Access to Work programme: if the Adjustment Passport and Access to Work Plus pilots produce positive results, these should be rolled out nationally as soon as possible." For more information on Access to Work click here: https://lnkd.in/dyHE6yQ A government incentive put in place to help disabled people into work, and to remain in work. Getting behind this initiative is key to sustainable employment for our cherished disabled communities. At #AutimaticUK we are always here to answer any questions and support companies that are looking into this important step in #autismemployment. As we navigate through the current emergency situation and security issues in the south, I believe that our presence in the region is more crucial than ever. While this dedicated team contintues to provide vital support to marginalized communities, concurrent economic and political crises make this work increasingly difficult. Fuel and medicine shortages, coupled with hyperinflation, threaten our ability to serve these communities. With your generous support, the Karama team can continue to uplift marginalized communities in need of care. https://lnkd.in/gFDXS4Q

Empowering Meaningful Change: My Journey as a local board member with Railway Children Africa. My Journey with Railway Children Africa begins in Tanzania, where children like in many other countries are often pushed from homes onto dangerous streets. I found my purpose as a Local Board Member at Railway Children Africa (RCA). This incredible organization, rooted in the UK and with programs spanning India and Tanzania, intervenes, re-integrates, and advocates for these vulnerable children. Joining the Tanzania board four years ago, I brought my legal expertise and business acumen, driven by a deep-seated passion for social justice. However, my journey with RCA began long before, back in university, when I championed orphans through my first NGO, the Community Action Group. Little did I know then that this experience would shape my future path profoundly. RCA’s approach is threefold. We start at the street level, engaging with children, understanding their situations, and tirelessly working to reunite them with families while safeguarding their rights. Moving to the community, we advocate to change perceptions about street children, teaching society to protect these vulnerable souls. At the government level, we collaborate with policymakers, social workers, and law enforcement to create laws that safeguard children’s rights. Despite our successes, challenges are abound. From political uncertainties to threats faced by our staff, the journey is far from easy. Yet, these past four years have been the most meaningful of my 20-year tenure in social impact-driven board roles. RCA, with its global network of professionals, is a beacon of hope for street kids across continents. We’ve faced adversity, but the RCA team, from leadership and boards to partners and well-wishers, has stood strong. Our work harmonizes like a perfect orchestra, where every element - governments, communities, the public - plays a vital role. RCA, I’ve come to realize, is the wind of change, transforming the lives of street kids every day. As I reflect, I am motivated more than ever. I am committed to empowering this wind of change that is RCA. RCA, I salute you, for being the driving force behind meaningful change. I always turn to one of my favorite African adages, ‘I AM BECAUSE WE ARE.’ Together, we was a society can continue to empower the lives of our street kids, one good and solid effort at a time. LETS KEEP EMPOWERING THAT CHANGE WHICH IS RCA, & ORGANIZATIONS LIKE HER. For further reading, please have a look at our website
