🍲 𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗗 = 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟 👨🎓 Our food & wellness programs form the very backbone of support that disadvantaged students need in order to attend school. For many families living with food insecurity, this program makes the difference between sending their children to class, or out to work to help put food on the table. In the next few posts, we’ll examine the impact of this crucial program, from daily school meals to food banks that have been developed with a laser focus on families living with the direst food insecurity. In total across all our food programs last year ... 🍚 66 tons of rice 🍗 13 tons of meat 🥕 17 tons of vegetable ... were consumed. That’s a whole lot of nutrition going where it’s needed most! Watch the video to see where our food program first began: daily meals, available to the +700 students at our rural school locations. Because with full tummies, kids can stay in class and focus on the lesson. Because Food = School … and #schoolistheanswer 💛

I wrote for The Independent today about school food - and how I think the focus of the news coverage this week has been in the wrong place. We should be talking about government funding, and how the per-meal rate of £2.53 creates a barrier to great school food. I talk about * How food inflation, staff costs and energy bills have all skyrocketed, and the per meal rate is not keeping pace. * Why are we underfunding school food when the evidence suggests it has enormous health and economic benefits? * How not only is the eligibility criteria too low, but that we're missing children (250,000 of them) in failing to auto-enrol, (a letter co-signed by 130 representative from charities, councils and academia went to the Schools Minister today!) * How eligibility caps mean children who need it can't access free school meals (9 in 10 parents want to see immediate expansion of free school meals to every child living in poverty - new research from The Children's Food Campaign Sustain: The alliance for better food and farming). * How caterers and schools are working hard to make the most out of not enough money. * How government should be doing the work on understanding what a school food rate should be in 2024 (and a heads up to School Food Matters for actually being the ones doing the work on the cost of a school meal). * And finally how 89% of parents WANT schools to offer a good range of healthy meals (Shout out to Barbara Crowther and the Children's food campaign team for their work on this). #Churchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaint The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , encourages us to always prepare for adversity. #foodstorage is one critical way that one can really prepare for the coming days ahead. To make this possible, one must first understand what and how to store food. In storing food, one might want to consider the amount of food needed to be purchased and stores. This can be done by first checking how much is consumed daily, then you can now multiply by seven to know how much will be purchased for a week and then multiplied by 4, which will give you how much you did need for a month. It’s is very important to have in mind that cost of these food items depends on location or region. After this have been done, the next question is How to store them. This should be properly packaged and stored in a cool dry place so as to preserve them for the time it would be consumed. All of this his makes you a better Leader in your Home and community preparing you for emergencies and #foodshortage.

Across the country, summer traditions mean picnics and barbecues. But for some families, summer highlights the challenge of food insecurity. Many families that rely on free or reduced school-provided meals struggle to feed their children when school is out of session during the summer months. During these months, 30 million children face unreliable access to nutritious meals, as reported by Feed the Children. Ensuring every child has healthy meals is vital.
