I agree with his statement, it all sounds great, but this political divide is more than just a disagreement. It is a fundamental disagreement between Servitude and Freedom. You cannot bridge that. No one who wants to be free will accept a little servitude to appease the other side. Those on the other side who desire communism and think it is freedom (who call the other side "Fascist") will not compromise at all, it is toleration only if it is their way. This type of divide will not be overcome by normal means. No one would say that the Founding Fathers should have just complied. No one would say that Europe should have just accepted German conquest. So to think we can get through this without what we still see coming...is delusional.
