We’re proud to have Paul Rampersaud as our government affairs and regulatory affairs #intern from the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute. During his time in our Washington, D.C., office, Paul has put his passion for community into action by helping advance legislation. While we hope Paul has learned a few takeaways from us, we also learn from our interns and team members. By listening to each other and providing ongoing development for all, we continue to adapt and grow as #OneTeamOneTyson.

When asked to reflect on her 21 years (and counting!) at Every Texan, Administration Manager Val Davidson has the following to say: "In the 21 years I’ve worked at Every Texan, I’ve had an inside look at the strides made to improve education and equity in our state. As a native Texan and a dedicated member of the Every Texan team, this progress fills me with great pride. Of the many Every Texan contributions to a better Texas, I am especially proud of our internship program. It is a transformational, hands-on educational experience that cultivates emerging advocates and policy experts — many of whom are aspiring educators themselves. We see incredibly bright and passionate individuals come through this program every year. As they complete their internships, these rising stars carry their new expertise into roles that drive positive change in Texas and beyond. But, there’s one thing our interns and other learners should never have to carry: the inequities that come with accessing education of all forms. That is why Every Texan persistently advocates for policies and programs that improve access and equity in education. Our People’s Budget will do just that. Through people-centered, fact-based research and policy analysis, a coalition of partners across race, class, and gender, deep community engagement with everyday Texans, and a narrative shift supported by digital advocacy, we know we can impact change where it matters — in public policy. This year, as you gather with family and friends — perhaps playing a board game or two — I challenge you to think about the power in our collective action. If every Texan works together, building an equitable education system (or maybe even carrying an elephant!) is possible. With your support today, we can work together to make the big, bold changes we need to make Texas the best place to learn and live for every Texan: https://lnkd.in/gQgdaa49"

On Friday, Sept. 8, I attended the MSU Black Summit 2023! This event focused on discussing and developing recommendations for the University to achieve Black Equity by 2030. The goal is aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan (“Empowering Excellence, Advancing Equity, and Expanding Impact”). This Summit brought Black faculty, alumni and students of MSU together to accomplish the mission of achieving equity, while finding the solutions to make sure black students feel supported and have needs fulfilled in order for them to graduate and be successful. It is the goal that by 2030, the 7% of black population that reside on campus will increase. Overall this was a great event that focused on Black excellence and empowerment of Black people. Furthermore, I had the privilege of conducting a recap on this event for my new internship with the DEI office of ComArtSci. Below is the first slide of the recap but if you would like to see the rest, you will have to check us out on instagram @comartscidei to obtain the two remain slides of the recap, that consist of the summit goals and takeaways :) ! #comartscidei

It's black history month! Our team at POCAM - People of Colour in Advertising & Marketing will be telling stories of black professionals in marketing. Today, I'd love to introduce you to Ozioma Nwabuikwu. Ozioma is a writer and a storyteller. That’s what drew her to advertising. The ability to tell a variety of stories from different verticals like finance, tourism, fashion and healthcare, to her current job of content strategy and freelance writing in the music and entertainment industry. She loves the intersection of culture, community and communications, and her work and writing reflects that. Ozioma has been in content creation for the past five years, as she was dealing with “homesickness and disillusionment with academia as an international student”. She was appointed head of marketing for the African association on campus and it helped her find her passion, and how much she loved to bring people together. As a newcomer to Canada, Ozioma had many odds stacked against her. She worked to understand our systems, our culture, and our student job programs that prioritize Canadian citizens or other degrees. She worked hard to create opportunities for herself and it was this tenaciousness that got her an internship in the Strategy department at Cossette. She was able to successfully break into the industry due to a combination of hard work, networking, and self taught skills, it’s been harder to maintain regular work in our industry due to our current economy. “It feels like there are fewer companies willing to invest in training, mentorship, and retain younger, diverse talent.” This lack of opportunity hasn’t stopped Ozioma from finding freelance work as her greatest accomplishment has been wharf work as a journalist, content strategist in music and entertainment; a great way to merge her love for writing, photography and culture. Ozioma would love to see our industry offer more long-term and intensive internship for diverse folks in an effort to be more inclusive, “Four months isn’t enough time to develop valuable skills and more mentorship should be embedded in internship programs.” Also an effort to transition people from internship to full time, so it doesn’t feel like company’s are checking off a “diversity box”. Her advice to young black talent is to look for those internships, continue networking, and know the experience you’d like to gain in order to work your way to that. This is how Ozioma has built her career, including knowing what her advantage is before taking on opportunities. She knows what she brings to the table, her unique perspective and skillset, and marries that with passion for her work, and the people around her. See more of Ozioma’s work here: https://lnkd.in/g9RbMk6T This POCAM BHM 2024 profile was written by Aleena Mazhar Kuzma, SVP, Managing Director, Partner of FUSE Create and a member of the POCAM - People of Colour in Advertising & Marketing board and steering committee.

A cornucopia of colorful fruits and red, orange, yellow and brown leaves is what I think of as we enter September. It’s also a month of mixed emotion as we remember the lives lost and affected on Patriot Day. Last year this time, we kicked off planning our first podcast delving into mental health in conjunction with September being National Suicide Awareness Month (our family has experienced the impact of feeling hopeless). September also represents renewal, reflection, and the need to prepare for change. True to our company values, it’s not just about making a difference and changing certain narratives; it’s about being the difference and the change through our five Es… Energy Flag football is on deck and we’ll work to improve our teamwork quotient along with building mental and physical acumen. Education, Empowerment and Entrepreneurship. We’ll welcome our fall season Morehouse interns and Georgia State University Panthers Accelerated Career Experience (PACE) program participants. Each team will be exposed to business and Entrepreneurship. Our second annual Push4Change is focused on exposing high schoolers to STEAM-related internships as an alternative to violence, in partnership with several vendors like The Edge Foundation (Blacks in Microsoft), Georgia Tech/Earsketch, Federal Aviation Association/Hartsfield Jackson, and many others (Education and Empowerment). Engagement We’ll embrace Hispanic Heritage by celebrating with our teams and giving thanks for their contributions. And…we’ll celebrate the fruits of the team’s labor on Labor Day while staying focused on the balance of the year and finishing strong with Best Burger 🍔 execution. …our work is never done. Hello September… #bethedifference #renewal #seasonschange #teamshine #the5Es
