If you are a resident or planning to move to Georgia with a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) this is important to know. Why is the program important? According to the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, on average children in Georgia are diagnosed around 4 years old, however, ASD can sometimes be detected at 18 months of age or younger. By age 2, a diagnosis by an experienced professional is generally considered reliable. An early diagnosis helps to ensure children receive timely and appropriate care. It is important for all children to be screened for developmental delays, especially those children who are at a higher risk for developmental deficiencies due to pre-term birth, low birth weight, or having a brother or sister with ASD. Our registration and assessment process has been designed to provide a safe, comfortable and comprehensive approach to diagnosing and supporting people with autism. Our registration and assessment process includes: 📍 Stage 1: Register on our online portal via asd-360.com. We will ask for your contact information - this information is not shared with anyone else. 📍Stage 2: Online screening assessment - our screening assessment (AQ-10) has 10 questions that help to determine if it is likely that you may receive a diagnosis of autism. 📍Stage 3: Book your assessment - if you would like to book an assessment after completing your screening assessment, you will be guided to pay an initial non-refundable booking fee which is included in the total assessment price. You will then be able to book an assessment with one of our clinicians. 📍Stage 4 :Background information - prior to your assessment we ask you to provide relevant background information, any reasonable adjustments required and to complete a masking questionnaire (16+). This ensures that we have a good understanding of where you are at before your assessment starts. 📍Stage 5: The assessment - our clinicians will assess you using ADOS-2 (and the ADI-R for children) assessment tools. The outcome of the assessment is shared in a separate session with you Once you have completed your autism assessment our team of clinicians meet for a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) discussion to review your assessment and confirm your diagnosis. Your clinician will then provide feedback of your diagnostic outcome. We provide an in-depth report that outlines the assessment process, the outcome of your ADOS-2 (and the ADI-R for children), where you met (or did not meet) the diagnostic criteria, supporting evidence and details of your preferences and strengths. We also provide a summary report that can be used for employment, schooling etc. We also focus on ensuring that our assessments are carried out within a short time frame, giving you access to your assessment outcome and a pathway to changing your life as quickly as possible. Autism Support Crisis in the UK! Hey everyone I hope you are all having an incredible week. I came across a recent study that uncovered shocking truths about the long wait times for health and education support for autistic children and young people in the UK. According to the findings: 🔍 Autism Crisis: Thousands of autistic children and young individuals are left waiting for months, even years, for essential support services. 📈 Assessment Backlog: Since the onset of Covid-19, there has been a staggering 306% increase in the number of children awaiting autism assessments. This backlog severely impacts their mental health, academic performance, and increases the risk of exclusion. 📝 Reform Recommendations: The study emphasizes the need for significant reforms, including shifting to a needs-led system rather than a diagnosis-led one, enhancing early identification and support, and addressing the disparities faced by different groups of autistic children. We cannot afford to overlook this crisis. Our children's well-being and future are at stake. It's time for action! Taking a step towards early detection of autism. A recent study has demonstrated the effectiveness of a screening tool in detecting autism at an early stage within primary care settings, potentially enabling timely interventions for young children with the condition. Conducted between August 2020 and November 2022, the large-scale study focused on evaluating the efficacy of the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, Revised with Follow-Up (M-CHAT-R/F) questionnaire. The findings underscored the importance of early detection and intervention in improving outcomes for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). #OneNUHS #HealthierSG #ShapingMedicine

So proud of NUH CDU and Aishworiya Ramkumar with our NUP colleagues! Despite autism being the top DALY condition for children now in Singapore, we have not validated screening tools which we can use, and which we can embed within the health booklet. Here it is now with results from our MCHAT study— with a second phase study underway. Read about our paper, published in Autism, here. https://lnkd.in/gKaWQp22
