Being storm-ready is more than having the right supplies and preparing your home. It's essential to know the safest routes out of your area and identify multiple destinations where you can seek shelter, whether with friends, family, or designated emergency shelters. Communication is also key; ensure every family member is aware of the plan and knows how to contact each other if you get separated. How to maximize your chances of survival if you haven't fled the Hurricane: Get high..on high ground and shelter yourself from the wind or to the top floors of a strong concrete building. Stay away from the windows. Flying objects will cut you to pieces. I have seen a blade of grass penetrate a tree. Then: 1) in a Hotel stay in the central corridor outside of the rooms or 2) Get into a far corner and use the mattress or sofa as a bulletproof vest on a 45* degree angle to the corner. Pray that the mattress protects you from immediate death. If you don't leave then the 'rescuers' will consider you a suicide. The good thing about Hurricanes is that they usually give you enough time to save your life. The same as seeing a train coming.... giving you enough time to get off the tracks. There is no cure for stupid. Reality is a harsh teacher. Generally, smart people survive and stupid people die. During Hurricane Gilberto, the strongest hurricane in History with winds of 300 miles per hour. I experienced every part of the destruction; including, people being blown out to sea like blowing pepper off a plate. Run for your life! Laura Hope the following is helpful 🚨 PSA for Hurricane Milton Preparations: Install iOS 18 and Use Messages via Satellite! 🚨 As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida, I want to highlight a crucial aspect of your emergency preparedness: updating to iOS 18 to utilize the new Messages via Satellite feature. With the threat of cell towers being knocked out, having the ability to send messages via satellite could be a lifesaver. This feature allows you to stay connected with family and friends even when conventional networks are down. Here’s a quick guide on how to enable and test this feature after installing iOS 18: Open the Settings app. Navigate to Apps > Messages. Scroll down and select Satellite Connection Demo to familiarize yourself with the process. This update is essential for anyone in the hurricane's path, ensuring you can share critical updates about your safety and whereabouts. Remember, Messages via Satellite requires an iPhone 14 or later. Have you updated yet? If you’re in the path of Hurricane Milton or know someone who is, please prioritize this update. Stay safe, Florida! 🌀🌪️
