Reposting for folks that missed it. A lot of the questions I’ve been seeing are answered here: https://lnkd.in/gx684SdH I’d like to clarify some things. The producers were under the assumption that they were not elegible to join a union but that’s not entirely true. They qualify for their own guild. Yes IATSE are concentrating their immediate efforts on on-set workers but that doesn’t mean vendor side artists can’t join now. The process for us on the vendor side is this (from the IATSE VFX union website: 1. Talk to your coworkers Do you share common concerns about your jobs? Is your employer unwilling to discuss or rectify your concerns? If so, a union may help. 2. Contact an Organizer A union organizer can help strategize and educate you and your coworkers about the process. And 3. Build Support In most private sector workplaces, U.S. federal labor law guarantees employees the right to talk to your coworkers about unionizing and other workplace issues, such as pay. 4. Vote! When a majority of coworkers support joining together, workers typically sign confidential authorization cards to indicate their support. Your employer may voluntarily recognize the union through a "card check" by a neutral third party. If your boss does not agree to a card check or voluntarily recognize the union, we will file a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to request a secret ballot union election. If you were wondering why on set gets the attention first have a look at this: https://lnkd.in/gNyeBYJG

Senior Campaign Lead for Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO | Fighting for Union Power for Delta Flight Attendants at the World’s Busiest Airport | Organized on campaigns in 9 states & 30+ cities ✊🏾 | ENFJ-A
We have a profound opportunity in the labor movement, especially in the South. Public approval of labor unions is higher than its been in decades. Workers are painfully aware of disparities they all face, both on the job and in their communities. More than any time in recent history, workers recognize that “business as usual” will not solve the problems they are up against, and they are prepared to organize. As organizers, activists, and advocates, our job is to help the people: 1. Clearly frame this moment- educating the people to help them fully understand the context of their struggle while also recognizing the reality of their pain. 2. See the power they wield in their solidarity- it’s essential to see that our greatest asset is one another. 3. Envision a more just and equitable world that we’ve yet to see- without the ability to imagine the world when we win, it’s impossible to fully understand what we are fighting for. 4. Prepare for the struggle towards victory- we oftentimes glorify the fight, but the people must understand and embrace that struggle has to precede victory. Strikes, boycotts, walk-outs, and protests are not easy, but the alternative of remaining silent in the midst of injustice is no alternative at all. “Dare to struggle, and you dare to win. Dare not to struggle and you don’t deserve to win.”- Fred Hampton #OrganizeTheSouth #OrganizeToMobilize #ChangeCreators #UnionPower #Labor #GAPol #AtlantaGA
