The economic development of a region relies heavily on the efficient functioning of its municipalities. One critical factor that influences economic growth is the speed in which the municipality can establish new residents and businesses. This growth is impossible if residential and commercial real estate cannot quickly meet the growing demand. We believe municipalities must consider streamlining permitting processes as a high priority economic development initiative. By reducing excessive controls, enhancing transparency, and fostering a business-friendly environment, municipalities can attract investments, stimulate entrepreneurship, and ultimately fuel economic progress. Truly Sustainable Economic Development ++ become a servant of local passion (local entrepreneurs)/ meet them where they are -- "Small is Beautiful written by Schumacher said above all in economic development if people do not wish to be helped leave them alone. This should be the first principle of aid, the first principle of aid is respect. -- Only respond to people, where never initiate anything , never motivate anybody, but you become a servant of local passion, the servant of local people who have a dream to become a better person. So what you do, you shut up, you never arrive in a community with any ideas and you sit with the local people. We dont work from offices, we meet at the cafe, we meet at the pub, we have zero infrastructure. Sustainable growth is at heart of Gloucestershire's 10-year economic strategy 🪙📈 By Ian Mean, Business West Gloucester director. Driven by innovation, built on heritage is an excellent descriptive headline to Gloucestershire’s new Economic Strategy for the next ten years until 2034. It encompasses the key assets of Gloucestershire and provides a timely, long term vision of what we need to achieve as a county. In short, we need to create a more inclusive, greener economy, supported by an action plan to deliver the priorities over the coming years. A strategy , according to my Oxford Dictionary, is “a plan for achieving a major goal”. And here’s the challenge. How do we achieve that goal when this new strategy must involve the views of all our six district councils? Will it have enough teeth? At the heart of the plan, which has taken something like five years to develop, is sustainable growth. Extremely difficult to achieve. Highlands and Islands Enterprise have just launched a study to find out what demand there is for commercial property and land in the Highlands and Islands. As part of the study, businesses, community groups and social enterprises with future land or property plans are encouraged to complete a short survey by 22 March. Demand for commercial property is an absolute dire need in this area so please fill in this survey if you are a business affected by the lack of land/property available. I happen to know from Karen Kennedy CA that many business owners need commercial units but can’t access it under current terms. These are year round businesses offering year round employment in Highlands and Islands. Vital that these businesses are supported and can expand to drive wealth generation and employment leading to repopulation. Please fill in the survey and help HIE to help our year round businesses.
