Come as you are. We’ve launched a new Diversity & Inclusion strategy! Diversity has the power to unlock new ideas, new potential, and create an environment where we all thrive. That’s why everyone is welcome as their true selves at Marston’s; we want our people to feel represented, valued, and appreciated as individuals. We know we have work to do to achieve an authentically diverse and inclusive workforce. So, we’ve created and launched an updated strategy to reflect how far we’ve come on this journey and provide actionable steps to achieve our goals. The strategy has three core aims; 1) to improve awareness and understanding, 2) to drive innovation, and 3) to attract, retain and grow diverse talent. We have seven inclusion networks which will continue to support our D&I plans and activities. These employee-led groups create spaces for our people to connect with one another, including but not limited to those who share similar characteristics or life experiences. Personality counts for more than anything else here; Marston’s doesn’t work if we’re all the same. Our difference makes us special, it’s the thing people remember. What is diversity and inclusion and is your organization authentic about it? I find that some organizations are just fulfilling a ticky box to appease the public. However, they aren't authentic and unqualified people are put in certain roles for perception of D&I. Please share your thoughts and experiences below.

Rising interest rates and the recent SCOTUS affirmative action decision. The former is a headwind for the greater economy and latter, for corporate DEI work, specifically--both creating severe turbulence for the practice. All of it creating fertile ground for cynicism and apathy to creep in and disrupt existing initiatives, or worse regress back to more "comfortable" norms. As the World 50 Group survey outlines in the The Wall Street Journal piece, diversity executives feel less influential. Obviously, there was always some amount of lip service being paid to DEI, from the mouth of corporate America; to that end, it will now take more canny practitioners to keep the embers burning, whether that be by folding in to their day jobs, or developing a more sophisticated approach to navigate around the roadblocks mentioned above. As a chair of a DEI committee in the corporate space, I know full well how difficult it has been...it's absolutely more challenging, but DEI ain't dead.
