Our Director for Policy and Partnerships, Daria Nochevnik, was today at Reuters Hydrogen 2024 to take part in a panel session titled 'Unlocking capital: Financing large-scale clean #hydrogen projects'. Key takeaways from the discussion which also included Dyonne Rietveld, Uniper Hydrogen; German Gonzalez, ACCIONAPLUG; Alexandrina Boyanova, European Investment Bank (EIB); and Hyung-Ja de Zeeuw, Rabobank: ➡️ Announcements vs FID: 35% of announced projects past FID in China, 20% in North America and 4% in Europe  ➡️ Steady growth in 10bn in FID year-on-year in the hydrogen industry over two consecutive years despite the macroeconomic headwinds and cost pressures vs. 1bn in FID in the past decade - a key indicator of industry’s evolution  ➡️ Strong industry partnerships and project structuring solutions for heavy industry and transport supported by public banks, paving the way for commercial banks and global investors ➡️ Reality check and natural attrition of project proposals with the strongest projects persevering - a trend similar to what we have seen in the early days of wind and solar  ➡️ Simplicity and certainty in legislation introduced at national level with mandatory demand-pull measures remains key to accelerate deployment Photo credit Afkenel Schipstra

Last week at Cleantech Group’s Cleantech Forum in Estonia, General Fusion Chair Klaas de Boer spoke on a panel about fusion investment with Gauss Fusion CEO Milena Roveda, moderated by Zainab G. The panel explored why investors are backing the emerging fusion industry today. Klaas shared: “I’ve been a part of the fusion industry for about 15 years, and I’ve seen the science and technology steadily advance in that time. For instance, when the Lawrence Livermore National Lab achieved breakeven in 2022, it actually wasn’t a surprise because industry and labs have been trending in that direction for years. It was the result of years of incremental progress that now, companies like General Fusion, are harnessing to design practical electricity-producing machines that will be ready to serve the grid by the early to mid-2030s.” #fusionenergy #thefutureofenergy
