Support Students 🤝 Donate School Supplies On Aug. 19, nearly 25,000 Springfield Public Schools students will come to school eager to learn. However, not all of them will have the supplies they need due to lack of resources. To help support students and their families, SPS is launching Ready. Set. Supply!, its annual campaign to collect school supply donations so all SPS students can start the school year off right. "A new school year is an exciting time for students but it can also be costly for families, especially those with multiple school-aged children," explained Jessica Blake, coordinator of community relations. "We want to help fill those gaps and make sure every student has the necessary supplies to be success ready." Community members and organizations can help by donating school supplies or making financial contributions. Santo 203 “Secret Snowflakes” Educators, together we can create a world where giving is the norm by providing creative opportunities for students. Our fifth grade students embraced the idea of becoming a “Secret Snowflake” by gifting to community members. One by one the Secret Snowflakes joined to form a blizzard of generosity to our neighbors and local charitable organizations. *Some took time to bake and deliver delicious goodies to neighbors *Others choose to donate to charities online. *Some handpicked gifts destined for the local Children's Hospital. *Others gave to Toys for Tots After the event, a lively discussion took place as students shared their “secret” with classmates. Reflections echoed the research of M. Ames who emphasizes that spending time enriching your community broadens your perceptions of the world. Immersing yourself in a community dedicated to positive change teaches you valuable lessons about how the world works and fosters a unique sense of purpose that often extends to other areas of your life. “The heart of the giver makes the gift dear and precious." - Luther. I recently had the opportunity to connect with Ashby Field Primary School, a fantastic primary school at the heart of the Daventry community and learned about the incredible work they're doing to create a positive environment for their students. However, like many schools, they are facing increasing financial pressure and are looking for support from local businesses. There are many ways we can make a difference – from donating via their JustGiving page, supplying materials for school projects, or even volunteering our time and resources. Increasing financial pressure within schools is leading to heightened stress on teachers, as they face larger class sizes, reduced resources, and growing demands to meet diverse student needs with limited support. This strain can affect both their well-being and their ability to provide the highest quality education. Not only do our teachers provide the highest quality education, they also play a crucial role in safeguarding our children by creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that promotes their well-being and development. Success as a nonprofit is all about community partnership! We were provided the opportunity for a donation of 20+ suitcases (and a full tub of toiletries); which, is not our exact "lane" when working with foster youth; so, we brought them to the amazing OCJ Kids for foster youth aging out of group homes.
